Posted in another thread that at the time I thought no penalty. Looking again I'm still 80/20 no penalty but was a heavy shoulder charge. Given up trying to work out what is/isn't accepted these days. Manning was struggling and should have cut inside earlier then penalty. Maybe his reputation of going down easily counted?

The way the game was reffed ( poorly) there was no way he would give a last minute penalty against the home team

I think it’s a free kick anywhere else on the field.

I have said the same at other times, but refs bottle it in the penalty area unless very clear.

Same can be said about letting bad tackles go unpunished early in games.

The laws should be applied the same for any minute and area of the pitch

I concur Clivey.

I did shout for quite a few things in the game, but there, even though it was last minute I only glanced at the ref in hope.

If it hadn't been last minute who knows?

If it wasn't Manning I'd be more convinced.
The usual if it's your team it's a pen. If your the oppo it aint.

A penalty all day long for me, the Birmingham player made no attempt to play the ball and contact was made, if it had been the other way around it would be a got out of jail moment...

You don’t have to play the ball provided it’s shoulder to shoulder which it wasn’t. Free kick everywhere else on the pitch but hardly ever in the area.

Said it as soon as it happened last night, nothing on the replay changes my mind - there was no effort to play the ball and as someone said in the thread lats night Cancelo was punished Saturday with both a sending off and penalty

Yes, a pen for me, but I can understand why the ref didn't give it, there was a faint possibility it was shoulder to shoulder and the ref didn't have the benefit of replays from several angles. VAR would have given it. Just a shame Manning didn't have the extra half yard of pace which would have allowed him to cut across the defender and make the foul more obvious.
Them's the breaks.

Shoulder to shoulder = no pen even if the attacker goes down under the impact
Shoulder between the opponents shoulder blades = pen all day long
