Early days for him in the first team but so far has looked a really solid keeper, some great saves Wednesday night.

I’d still rather we tried to develop Benda personally. Hamer will only ever be a journeyman stopgap and the weaknesses that made him unwanted other than to sit on our bench in case of an unlikely injury will probably surface soon enough. In the meantime though, keep it going Benny Boy.

Completely agree with this post, I just dont get it Benda is either good enough or needs to be tested at this level.

Anyone else think he was a bit flappy wednesday night?
Solid enough with his saves and distribution though

A team just above the relegation zone can’t afford to develop an accident prone goalkeeper if he continues to be accident prone. Benda should be given a chance in cup competitions and then he can fight to get the jersey back. Hammer has it now and should keep it if he performs.

I don’t know him well enough but to be a lower league journeyman and latterly a reserve championship goalie only offered a contract as a bench warmer with not even a place in cup games at 33 years old, I reckon there are going to be some in evidence. I hope not. I hope he turns into Peter Shilton.

I think it was a mistake to drop Benda. Young keeper - he‘ll make mistakes and learn from them. Can’t see how playing a 33 year old keeper no matter whether he‘s had a couple of solid performances or not, is really going to benefit us.

Beep, beep, beep. So you dont know his weaknesses, that you talk about.

Think it was just a case of not wanting to bed in a young keeper on top of rejigging the way we play at the back. Benda will return at some point.

Why are people so desperate for Benda to play? He done OK in the opening games but consistently made mistakes. If Woodman had made the same mistakes he’d have been lynched! Benda looks a promising keeper, but we are currently not in a position to be bedding in a goalkeeper that is costing us goals.

He's come through the ranks having been here since he was 18 and people like to see home-grown players make it, as developing your own players is the best bet for a team to save money on signing players and potentially make money on selling your home-grown players.

Hamer is 33 and has relatively little sell-on value even if he suddenly morphs into the reincarnation of Lev Yashin. Benda is 22 and if he makes it, either provides us with our first-choice goalkeeper for many years to come or earns us a good amount if we sell him.

So seems obvious to me why fans would be desperate for Benda to play. For me, if Martin thinks Hamer is the better keeper right now then play him and give Benda a chance in the next Carabao match on Wednesday.
