First of all, no one deserves to be executed for their political beliefs. That needs to be said loud and clear. That guy has a family whose lives have been turned upside down. I think of them right now.

However, there is a wider question here, and it is one that the Right (and it is the Right) must confront themselves with.

And that is, when governments keep shifting the Overton Window to the Right (as has happened gradually across Western society in the past 45 years, particularly here and in the US), when Right-leaning billionaires buy up newspapers and TV channels and apply Right-leaning editorial policies, when Right-leaning governments try to shut down certain types of protest whilst allowing others free rein (contrast the treatment of Palestine Action vs, for example, farmers, who were allowed to bring central London to a standstill last year), when Right-leaning governments spew hate into the atmosphere like they do with the language around immigration, when you do all of this, when you attempt to have two different sets of goalposts (one for the Left, one for the Right), then don't be surprised if that gives rise to nutjobs who are going to find a different and violent way to make their voices heard.

To be clear once more - I am not trying to legitimise or excuse extremism/terrorism, I am simply saying that you shouldn't be surprised to be on the receiving end if you are directly contributing to the conditions that give rise to it happening.
Exactly. There was not a peep from these people when Democratic lawmakers were assasinated just a couple of months ago. They just kept stoking the fires to divide people and now someone from their side has been burned they want to call out divisive rhetoric. I find it impossible to have sympathy for anyone other than his wife and kids.

It's called freedom of speech Epaul and you are more than entitled to your views 👏. Unfortunately the person who has been murdered no longer has a voice. Nobody expects or is asking you to grieve. I question the type of person you are when you feel the need to come on a football forum and post that, when his body is possibly not even cold yet 😞
I didn't start this thread on a NON FOOTBALL BOARD. It's reprehensible that he has been murdered and of course he is entitled to his view as much misaligned as they are

Good on you Captain 👏. I don't understand how a person could deliberately click on a link to watch a fellow human, being murdered knowing full well how it affected other posters. I do question that person's reason? Would they watch it, if it was someone that they liked? Or just viewing it as they didn't like that person's views 🤔?

It didn’t affect me I’ve seen worse.

I’ve just braced myself to look at Twitter for the first time since last night. The patriot nutjobs have now taken leave of even the last vestiges of their sanity. This murder of one of their own has pushed them even further into the abyss of lunacy.

The ‘far’ right is full of snowflakes. They’re up in arms pretending that this guy was some sort of voice of reason in common sense politics - well let’s get this sorted out now - Charlie Kirk was not in politics, he was in showbiz, a social media phenomena pandering to ultra-right conservatives who want to see division in society as in their misguided minds they think it will improve their miserable existence. His high intelligence and articulate manner enabled him to make mincemeat of liberal and naive students a decade or more his junior, exploitation for TikTok hits.

… and before the patriots, flagshaggers, gammon and other Reform voters start jumping up and down my opinion was formed before he was shot, I didn’t watch the video even though I could have, and I still feel that this is a tragic and abhorrent event.

Interesting reading this and I can see a multitude of sides on this.

For me in the little I’ve seen of Kirk I was impressed by his intellect and his bravery in going into the lions den which has ultimately led to his demise.

There’s a screenshot on this thread which speaks volumes with regards the hard left. They are not his views, I’m no expert on what his belief system but fundamentally that is biased take that has twisted what he has been saying and this is ultimately why there’s so much toxicity.

If you have anything about you and have any level of integrity you will debate and listen to people with a different viewpoint. This man did that whether you like him or not and was true to his belief system in debate and freedom of speech.

I personally do not agree with a lot of what he says eg abortion. Although I am certainly open minded with advance in medical science of a more conservative position on the subject. There is nothing inherently evil about finding abortion immoral quite the opposite in fact. That is a perfect example of an area in which debate should be legitimate and heard from different perspectives. Instead we just get “you’re a nazi” from leftists.

Trump and MAGA did not come out of a vacuum. People really need to wake up and truly look deep with themselves to understand why this has happened.

All I can feel on this fundamentally is how sad it is for his young family.
