Borini worked out as we went up.

I don’t see much point in so many loans unless it makes a step change in our final position.

It’s just money out for no return unless they (a) make the difference to us staying up or (b) make the difference in us getting to the playoffs.

Agree to a point. If there is significant outlay for no discernible benefit in terms of what happens next year then it makes you question the logic.

However, some of the loans are short term solutions to problem areas. The Rushworth signing is one such example whereby we don’t have another credible option as of now.

I would like to see the outlay in terms of fees and wages.

Btw - we still haven’t confirmed Ntcham has left have we?

No, and the Samsunspor Twitter feed confirmed it from their side yesterday.

The fees are never high, contrary to popular belief, especially for young players.

They are desirable for the parent club, they are often free or negligible fees with caveats of game time.

We won’t know that until the end of the season though, as we didn’t when we signed Borini.

If they give us a better chance of going up by promoting us towards those play offs then I’m all for it, and there is no reason to think the quality we have brought in on loan won’t do that.

There is also every chance to keep the likes of Rushworth, Ashby or Patino should we wish to upon promotion and give us the edge in the race to sign them should they do well.

Even if we don’t go up then I don’t see why any of them wouldn’t return on loan like DeGuzman did if it’s beneficial for all parties.

Football is a short term game, far too much negative focus is put on loans.

We’re in a very different position financially to the situation we were in when we signed Borini.

We are losing £20m a year (will have changed a little now, but not significantly). Loans are great at plugging a hole that would cost too much to fix properly (Rushworth being a good example of that). But otherwise they make little sense for a club UNLESS it’s a step change.

This one only makes sense if Grimes is off really. Despite his obvious talent.

Rushworth I agree as I said in my later post before I saw this one.

I can’t agree. They are multi purpose, not too different in signing someone like Pedersen.

He’s 29, will cost a fee, will get 12-24 months out of him and will likely go for free at the end, or certainly at a loss.

Similar to Bennett in that respect. I think the loan market in conjunction with the regular market is much needed for a club in our position.

It gives us quality in areas for a fraction of the cost. Patino is a £10m player according to reports.

But that’s why football is so great. Opinions differ.

Borini joined us in March and played 9 games.

On loan, which helped us go up.

Helped him get a move to Roma and help Chelsea get a fee.

Everyone wins.

We have to assume that we are not breaking the bank for these deals. If used correctly then there is nothing wrong with plugging holes or enhancing the squad for a period of just one season. Therefore, we can say it makes sense to try and find the correct formula, whether this is successful won’t become clear for some months.

If you just rely on loans then it’s not advisable.

But if you are using the loan market intelligently to supplement your squad then that’s exactly what we want.

Not disputing the talent. I have a few Arsenal supporting friends who believe he’s as good as anything they’ve had come through in recent years and were irritated when it appeared Arsenal were going to sell him to Luton.

Let’s hope he can make a real difference. We definitely need some creativity in the team.

We also need some players with a left foot btw…

He was the chap sent off when Blackpool visited fortress Liberty last year.

A key component in enabling Russ to achieve 3 wins in 23.

I saw Patino come on and score for Arsenal on the box in a cup tie a couple of years ago. He was a very attacking midfielder that night and later said that he styled his play on Carzola and Fabregas.

Unless he’s changed position since he’s not a Grimes replacement.

Agree.

Left footed players will be coming.
