Are those that did it last lockdown doing it this time?

It was the adult equivalent of 8 year olds joining in with a silly game in the playground due to peer pressure.

My favourites were those who recorded themselves clapping and posted it on social media so that others knew how much they cared.

It is ironic that many of the people who I know who were clapping ferociously a few months ago are amongst those most up in arms about the latest set of restrictions put in place to help not overwhelm NHS staff and hospitals.

The difference between then and now (for me at least) is that back in March we had a more unified approach to tackling what was largely an unknown problem. What we're faced with now is a mixture political posturing where the devolved governments seem to go out of their way to be different, and cock up after cock up from Westminster. It's no wonder that both the public and the institutions such as Tesco are confused about what they can and cannot do. The epitome of this nonsense is Jimmy Krankie and her 5-tier alert system; but oh no it's not the same as the Boris Nando's scale as he used 1-5 whereas Jimmy on the other hand has proposed 0-4. The plot has been well and truly lost.

If they can cash the claps in against their mortgages, or to buy things for their families, then sure, why not?

If not, I bet they’d prefer us to do something more meaningful that would genuinely make their jobs appreciated and easier. Like never vote Tory, for example.

The worst thing that has been spawned from the NHS clapping is the endless pages that appear on social media suggesting clapping for various things

The community page around here alone has one mad woman who so far in the past month has suggested

1. A community cap for trick or treat before giving all the kids sweets
2. A 6pm standing on your door CHristmas Eve to sing carols to remind Santa we are still here
3. An 11am clap on Remembrance Sunday
4. A clap this Thursday to protest against the lockdown (ironic)

None of these I have made up

Apparently it’s a scandal that trick or treating isn’t going to be allowed because the poor kids have had such a tough time amd missed out on so much.

Lol. Thankfully I haven’t seen anything like that. Ever feel like the world is going nuts?!

Scandal is a bit strong but it's definitely a shame. The kids have missed out on a lot this past 8 months.

My son's football and swimming lessons have obviously gone. No soft play or playgroup for my daughter to attend and no birthday parties at all.

Bonfire night and Xmas parades already cancelled. So it's been a shite few months for the kids too.

A shame, yes. But if you at some of the reactions on social media you’d swear they’d cancelled Christmas.

Imagine the reaction when they do.

I'd rather clap for NHS and key workers than take the knee for BLM.
