No opposition players in the 6 yard box is one suggested fix

Another is that the ball is "in play" from the moment the ball is put on the corner quarter circle allowing the ref to watch and blow up for free kicks or penalties before it is crossed into the box

I am curious how much difference the former would make
Rule changes aren't needed, the laws already exist to deal with the situation, we've just allowed ourselves to drift into a situation where the refs are afraid to apply them. If you're wrestling with an opponent or pulling his shirt, it's a foul (attacker) and a free kick, or a pen (defender). If the refs cracked down and gave the appropriate sanction, there'd be howls of protest for a week or two, but it would soon settle down when players got the message.

Arsenal player did similar in one game and got away with it, goal given.
That happens in football though imo. How many times have we seen it with our players? Decisions that don’t get given to us just to get given to the opposition team 5 minutes later. It’ll probably get framed as the officials being biased towards the big team but it happens to everyone.

It’s part of the game and always has been.
We weren’t given a handful of stonewall penalties all season and then we get one at QPR a yard outside the box.

It’s almost impossible to get consistency across a season on the subjective decisions.

What’s always annoyed me in the ground is when there’s a lack of consistency within a game. No excuse for that from officials.

2 wrongs don’t make a right though. This one was a foul, so the decision was correct. I’ll take your word for it that the one you mention was also a foul (as I haven’t seen it). So that should also have been a foul. It’s not a reason to not punish this offence.

I agree, good post, but Arsenal have got away with things all season and that's not me saying that, I've listened to pundits saying it, I try to avoid watching Arsenal to be honest, I can't stand Arteta their fans etc.

In that same set piece Trossard was physically wrestling a West ham player with all his strength to stop him challenging for the ball so much that said player couldn't move, Rice was doing the same to another player. yet you got Arteta jumping up and down when his goalkeeper is impeded, I agree that the keepers shirt was being pulled holding him down and the arm across his neck impededing him from jumping, but still there was plenty of holding by the Arsenal players before the corner was even taken

Easily a foul on Raya for me. Arm and shirt being grabbed. I get the argument about West Ham players also being fouled but the reality is that you’ll never be allowed to interact with a goalkeeper in the same way as other players.
