England vs NZ 3rd Test

Wow again!
Delighted for Leach, Mitchell, Boult and Bairstow......these 2 sides are box office!

Stokes to me is enjoying the captaincy and is getting Broad ramped up.
Love the fact Root ran to Leach fielding at deep 3rd man at times to celebrate wickets.

The ball has stopped swinging and all of the sudden the pitch looks like the perfect batting track. Well done Bairstow and Overton for taking advantage.

If Broad had bowled like Boult did at the start of the innings, we'd be calling him unplayable. When it's an opposition bowler, too many just blame the batsmen. Stokes is the only one who really deserves criticism for how he got out.

If we're going to knock England for anything, it was for pitching it short constantly this morning. Boult immediately showed them what they should have been doing. Pleased for Leach though.

Some of us did recognise Boult’s brilliant new ball spell. ;)

Aye, I'm probably responding more to the ones on the Beeb's website, who always have something to complain about. A lot of them are very unhappy with this new version of England because it's 'not Test cricket as we know it'.

I love how weird and wonderful a sport Cricket is.

Jamie Overton is on debut, came in to bat at number eight and is a player with only 1 first class century to his name I believe. Not to mention England were in the midst of a collapse when he came in. He'd have been given credit for just blocking everything and allowing Bairstow to play his natural game.

Instead he scores an incredible 97, almost matching Bairstow blow for blow at some points and finally gets out having helped bring England back to almost level scores. He was three runs from doing something only WG Grace has ever done according to TMS (Score a century and take a wicket on debut). Incredible performance.

Yet all he'll probably be feeling right now is huge disappointment that he didn't get his century! Hopefully the disappointment will ease and he can look back on his performance with pride.

Was that an England record 7th wicket partnership between Overton and Bairstow ?
Broad has obviously been practicing as has the whole team.

Broad 42 off 36!!!! Unheard of!
It is 100mph Test cricket!

Boycott must be livid😉😂🤣

I've missed 3 wickets.. each time I went out to get a drink or food and the b*stards decide to actually catch a ball

Even though Overton failed to score a ton, he is still only the second English player after WG Grace, to score 97 runs or more on debut and take a wicket.

It’s not going to be a scorcher but it looks dry for a full day of play. England will be happy to restrict the deficit to 200 and getting an early wicket is vital. Another fascinating day awaits.

Foakes out with covid. Sam Billings in as a covid sub. Interesting as the Covid subs are supposed to be like for like so Billings should keep wicket. Billings has kept wicket before and is decent enough but Bairstow was behind the stumps yesterday before Foakes was officially ruled out.

I agree, but given the run chase in the last test and there being 2 days remaining, plus New Zealand's limited bowling option, I think England would be quite confident in chasing down 300+.
