With the signing if Inoussa could Eom replace Ronald in the right? Eom is mainly right footed and his crossing accuracy is far better than Ronald's. He's also a better dribbler.

Given his excellent defensive attributes could Ronald play as an 8? All a bit left field I know, but the summer's long...

Inoussa is also right footed, so, like Eom, prefers to cut in from the left and deliver inswingers. Unlike Eom, he's only played on the left.

I agree. He has a lot of the attributes of a full back - defensive ability and work ethic, coupled with pace.
OMG NO!!! He does not understand the offside rule - annoying when attacking -but potentially costing you goals at the back!

Ronald not understanding the offside rule has been thoroughly debunked previously. End product is something he needs to improve yes, but when I checked his stats over the 2nd half of the season (I couldn't be bothered to go back further) he was caught offside an average of 1.7 times per game which is a perfectly acceptable level.

But don't let stats get in the way of a good witch hunt

Like you i cant be arsed to delve too far. HOWEVER the team with the MOST offsides over consecutive seasons averaged a little over twice per game, see below. It is revealing that Ronald nearly achieves this on his own 😳😬 As a winger he also has the advantage of being able to look along the whole defensive line.
How do you debunk a debunking? Asking for a friend..

“Offside calls vary a lot across different levels of play and seasons. In the 2023-2024 English Premier League season, Liverpool topped the offside chart with 100 calls. Manchester Unitedfollowed with 91, while Everton received 89 offside calls.

But these numbers change between seasons. During the 2022-2023 season, Liverpool again led with 84 offside calls, closely followed by Leicester City with 83 and Manchester United with 80.”

I feel like you are completely lacking context here.

Attacking players by the very definition of their roles will be more at risk of offside than other positions. People talk about wingers being able to look down the line but that only really applies when play is slow and relatively static, when the ball is being moved with pace or attacking down the channels that is rarely what happens.

Liverpool you said had 100 offside calls in the 23/24 season, so just under 3 per game. However the pace that Liverpool play the game at they are far less likely to be caught with the wingers offside as their style of play is both high tempo and their wingers and full backs have huge amounts of pace.

You say that it is revealing that Ronald almost achieves the same average offsides as Liverpool did on his own, however he is also the only player in the squad that plays off the shoulder of the full back so of course he is most at risk of being caught offside. Now if you want to see a player who didn't understand the offside rule and was constantly in an offside position then you can look at Obafemi during his time here.

In his case it wasn't playing off the shoulder of the last man, it was just a player who was fucking lazy at getting back onside.

Under Williams Ronald was probably offside because he makes his runs and then 5 minutes later after twenty to me-to you's with the gnome, someone tries to play the ball forward?

Yes, if you make runs off the shoulder of the defender the timing of the pass is the crucial thing. It's not your fault if the pass is delivered a split second too late.

Any thoughts on Eom playing on the right? He has played there in South Korea. Inoussa will play on the left so if Eom is to be a starter he needs to be wide left of a central 3 in a 4-3-3, or as a twin 8/10 in a 4-1-4-1, or wide right. I guess we don't know how he would fare, but being right footed and a good crosser - better than Ronald, that could be the way to go.

Class act. Our best player technically. Just need a bit more end product which I'm confident will come.

My current theory is that he will play as a 10 behind the striker with Inoussa on the left and Ronald on the right.
Franco and Widell will run the midfield ahead of the defence.
