Well I don’t agree. I spend a lot of time in America and step outside the big urban centres and the way of life is fantastic and extremely safe.

And of course depends where you go.

That’s what I said. Outside the big urban centres

And the guy who did the killing got life. Barbaric and arbitrary justice system akin to some illiberal theocracy like Iran or Saudi Arabia.

Very simple really - you don’t want to get the death penalty, well don’t go around killing people then.

If you don’t want to die of cancer, simply don’t get cancer.

Well done captain obvious, you’ve just saved the whole village.

Safe, but large areas of poverty. In rural areas as well as cities. Plenty of nice places, especially suburbs and university towns. But the deprivation in places like New Orleans or disparity in San Francisco should not happen in the world’s richest country.

Most of that deprivation comes from not a lack of money, but by addiction to drugs and alcohol.
San Francisco (has become a shite hole, democrat run) for example has been a magnet for down and out form all over the state for a while.

Also, just like the nhs in this country, unless you address the underlying issues, pouring in more money will not end the problems that it faces

New Orleans is nothing to do with drugs or alcohol. Or Detroit. SF’s problem is it’s success driving up housing costs. Not just drug addicts but normal people living in cars. As much as I like the US, it’s also not hard to see it’s veneer of wealth.

I also don’t see it being addressed in the current US political system

It’ll never be addressed in the USA, just like many of the problems in the U.K. will never be addressed.
As the expression goes ‘ the can will be continued to get kicked down the road’ . The answers won’t be popular sort term and therefore the political establishment won’t go anywhere near them.
