Grimes Speaketh

If Grimes really does believe his guff about joining a "team on the rise", he might want to have a look at what's happened to them since reaching the 2023 play off final. Clown.

To be fair the new Swedish bloke said the same thing about us

His missus saying "unfortunately, that's football for you" says to me it wasn't quite Matty's decision
We know money talks and we don't know the full extent of what is happened, but either Grimes is selfish or he is ruthless. If it's the same thing in many eyes then we'll. Say this cos it would eat my contuence if I knew parents in law literally just moved the same week and then to say we are moving. I couldn't do it. But that's what makes a football player? And I am not.

Grimes doesn't strike me as being the selfish or ruthless type. You certainly don't get that from the way he plays or the fact that whatever you may think of him, he probably could have got a big money move at some point over the last few years if he had really wanted it.

He always seemed happy here to me, doing limited role in the team, being captain and having a nice life with his family.

My point was more a club decision.
Reading between the lines. Both club statements and Williams and Coleman have not reacted the way I thought they would. Clearly they are pissed at Grimes. I personally think it's black and white. He saw the opportunity to go and get more money and wanted to work under Lampard and took it. And Swansea was shocked of their club captain going for it. People can argue as much as they like with me, he would of gone to way back. Opportunity arose and he went. Didn't have it in him know more to fight for us

I get your point, but being selfish, ruthless comes in different forms. Not every player has to be wearing it on his sleeve. Granted he has been seen as someone who is commited etc, but true colours come out when pushed. I get it if people don't agree and I'm not saying he is Satan. But something always seemed amis to me with him.

He probably was happy here.

But then Coventry came along and offered to double or triple his wages, depending on which reports you believe.

The guy is 30. He's a rank ordinary player. He's never going to play premier league. This was his last shot to fill his boots. And so he has. Money talks.

That's all there is to it.

They'll just rent two houses in Coventry, probably next door to each other. And rent out their Swansea properties in the meantime, if they want to come back here that badly. It's hardly time to get the violins out. I'm sure they'll survive.

How many other offers has he had? I'd lend you some of my fingers to help the count but you won't need them

Anyway, he's gone and soon forgotten. Today will tell us a lot about where we're headed from here. The team comfort blanket/instruction/preference to pass back (it's always back) to Grimes has gone. It'll probably go back from the opposition box straight to Vig now...miss out the middle man. Williams has a lot to prove now. I can't see him changing anything, but let's see. We should at least get a (first half) performance.

I'm going to try and have my last say on Matty. I'm undecided if he would be any use anymore to Swansea. I think he has become too settled in his role that he has, ahem, developed in the last 3 or so years. I think it's a shame as I still think he would be of benefit to us if he was able to play CM going forward but not sure any manager could get him to do that any more. As for captain, waste of space. What was happening behind the scenes we'll probably never know fully. I wish him the best as he has been a good servant and don't get the vindictiveness. As for what he does for Coventry, I really don't care. SCFC, onwards and upwards. Probably more likely downwards but that's another topic.
