From today’s thread on Grimes on the Coventry Messageboard.

I was and am a big fan of Grimes. I don’t like how he left us in the mud right at the end of a January window but something obviously went on behind the scenes there.

This is probably just bias and social media amplification but I found Cov fans to be a little too smug over his signing for them and I can’t say I’m too sad about Boro catching up to them.

You'll get attacked left right and center for speaking up about Grimes stj, but your bang on. Also, your right about Cov fans, horrible bunch.

I laughed out loud when a Coventry troll came over and said they’d taken our best player. I thanked him profusely for the money and apologized. It’s not robbery when they willingly pay.
Wouldn't he have been our best player at the time? Can't think who was better. Franco?

And there is alot who think he can play with consistency at top level 😂. Yes he is being used to cover up their form, but we saw the same issue when he was with us. When he played bad the team would be as well, as everything went through him.

Looking from the outside Coventry problems are in their defence .
Going forward they score goals , at the moment they concede too many .

Not Franco, no. Possibly Tymon, but I think Grimes was probably our best player when he left. He's one of the best CDMs in the league. We can ignore the Coventry fans, they'll be as blinkered and end up as bitter as ours were, as people don't appreciate what he does. Ironically, I think that's because he has so much time on the ball and so much influence in the game. He's more involved than anyone else so gets watched more. People jump on every time he keeps things ticking over and ignore all the forward play as it doesn't suit their crusade against him.

I remember checking his stats in the season before he left when people were jumping on his back saying he only went backwards. At that point he had the most forward progressive passes of any midfielder (I can't remember when it was, some time in the back half of the season). He was playing for ages in that fraud Martin's team, of course it was going to be a struggle getting the ball forward but he was still one of the best at it. You only had to watch him - he always looks up before receiving the ball to see what's on ahead - with us normally nothing was on. And this season he's created more chances than any other player in the league* (even Hayden Hackney who Forest want) - https://www.fotmob.com/leagues/48/stats/season/27195/players/total_att_assist/championship

He's a good player and always was. He's not a machine (although not far off, he doesn't miss many) and is obviously not going to be 100% every match. He's also not a PL quality player. But at this level there are very few midfielders who have delivered at such a high level as he has over so many seasons.

*He's almost created more chances this season (60) than the whole of our more defensive midfielders combined even if you include Franco who plays further forward (62: Stamenic - 8, Franco - 24, Galbraith - 26, Fulton - 4).

Rant over lol.

I agree. There's a lot of truth in that because he either makes a team tick or doesn't. Maybe the main criticism against him is that a team he's in can become predictable, because he is that main focus. And that's more a criticism of the team/tactics. He's the sort of player who can play in any team in this division, but he's not going to be able to carry a crap team all on his own.

Not at all. Coventry will likely go up in my opinion but for their fans have been an arrogant bunch for a good few years now.
I hate it when they are down our place.
Got to agree about their fans.
Don't see Coventry failing in their promotion.

Just to p1ss their fans off, I hope they come back down, with less points than Derby did.
And go straight through.
Arrogant fans must be a requirement for that side of the country.
Leicester, Coventry, Forest and Derby with their famous "Bodde has bought a house up here."

Coventry is in the West Midlands, despite being further east than Derby. So you could also add Birmingham and West Brom to that list of obnoxious supporters.

Never had a reason to dislike Villa, Walsall or Wolves. I wonder if that is because their supporters are less entitled or because we have spent less time in the same divisions as them?

Leicester are quite possibly the worst set of away supporters to ever visit the stadium, vile bunch of human beings.

Not including Cardiff as they just stand there and offer nothing.
