That’s a hard one. Being only a few years older Hugh was a someone I could relate to as Glamorgan captain and was a rock with Steve James for the county at the top of the order. Hugely successful career as ECB and GCCC chief and very much turned around Glammy off the field. Will be hugely missed. RIP

Should definitely have played more for England and would have had he played for pretty much any other county.

Oh heck, that’s sad. One of the few who helped to implant a love of cricket into my brain from a very early age.

RIP Hugh.

One of my early memories of watching cricket live was the season he and Alan Butcher seemed to put on 100 for every opening partnership.

Played a huge part in the success that followed through the 90s.

A sad day for Glamorgan and Welsh cricket. RIP.

I’ve been at the Panto and out for a meal with the family and only just saw this, very shocked at the news. He was a prominent player and clubman for Glamorgan and brought class to the batting throughout his career. So young, ten years younger than me, RIP Hugh.

I once met HM before a Glam Sunday league game in Ebbw Vale. Next to him in the pavilion was a young Tendulka who nobody even noticed.
