I'm on the fence with Hellberg seeing that we didn't appoint him last time, but he certainly looks the job on paper. He's also much less possession-obsessed than Martin/Williams, as seen with his versatility at Varnamo, and seems to be much more adaptable to the squad he has, rather than a 'one tactic fits all' approach used by basically every manager we've had this decade.

The only reason we didn’t appoint him last time was because of what Sheehan did here.

Let’s be honest… we couldn’t not appoint Sheehan after the results he got in his caretaker role.

I think Hellberg was the clubs preference in the summer but felt they couldn’t not give Sheehan the job.

I think we wanted to appoint him in the summer but the backlash of not appointing Sheehan would have been incredible if we got off to a slow start under Hellberg which meant the decision was taken out of Gorringe/Montague hands

Ultimately there was no way we could have justified not giving it to Sheehan at the time.

What sort of appointment would you be happy with Phil?

I think Hellberg looks a good fit. Huw Jenkins had a philosophy of only appointing managers who had not suffered failures in their careers to date - he thought it would create a fresh and enthusiastic environment with Managers who are climbing the ladder, rather than those who were on a downward spiral in their careers.

I’d much prefer someone like Hellberg than Mowbray, Corberan, Wagner etc

Hellberg also has 5 years experience as a Manager unlike Sheehan, Williams & Martin who were all inexperienced managers which I think was a main factor of their demise

I would be happy to give him a chance

Take all of this talk and hype with caution. It is easy to play high pressing attractive football with great stats when you are one of the strongest team in the league with players a cut above the rest.

We do not have that luxury here and the league is tighter than it has ever been. Can easily turn out to be another "Swansea way" identity failure......

The Championship has evolved since the early 2000's so quoting passed successes doesn't point to them succeeding in the current climate.

The game has moved on from little triangles to direct power athleticism box to box and improved technical ability since our initial Championship period.

Also we need a manager who can maximise our player development with limited budgets compared to other teams
in our league.

Big ask i know.

Maybe Manning is the answer. He's as well thought of at Narch as Rodgers was at Reading!

I wasn't sure of any really, except Rodgers at Reading, hence the question.

Definitely we avoided all the dinosaurs.

Edit: Personally I'd be much more behind a punt on the likes of Hellberg, than Corboran, Mowbray or Wagner...who are all totally uninspiring.

Odds appear to be shortening on Kim Hellberg becoming the next Swansea boss, but it appears Hammarby are keen on keeping their current boss.

WalesOnline understands Swansea have already held talks with the 37-year-old, who has one year left on his current deal at the club.

A move to English football, it's claimed, would interest Hellberg, but Hammarby's Mikael Hjelmberg seems hopeful the club can tie him down to an extended deal.

"There is an ongoing dialogue with Kim and his representative and has been for a while," he told Swedish outlet Aftonbladet last week.

"At the moment there is nothing new to report there.

"Our preferred scenario is of course that we find an agreement with Kim about an extension. He is a fantastically competent and good football coach who has done a great job for Hammarby and we would like to see him continue at Hammarby.

"He has a contract for next year as well and that is what we are looking at.

"We have a contract with Kim and he is in a great place and he has done a great job. We absolutely assume that Kim will coach Hammarby in 2026 as well."
