Matt Grimes

It appears that Byers might have been on more p/w than Grimes so letting him leave might have been a way of settling what would be an awkward situation for a club captain and free up a bit of extra wage for him.

Anyway, glad our fans are realising his value to us, specially if coached in a way that utilises his strengths. Potter saw it and hopefully RM does too. I e only been banging on about it for the last couple of years. :D

Yeah well next time you see him pal ask him to stop getting caught in possession and losing the ball - a continual thorn in his otherwise Messi-style play

From RM’s comments earlier I don’t think there are any doubts he agrees.

Desperate to keep him.

Yeah fair play the club have done a brilliant job in fending off all those £1.5 million offers from Fulham and the like

Yeah I’m sure you know the ins and outs of offers club have received 👌

The club are actively trying to keep grimesy here and discuss a new contract.

Surely the club and the owner needs to be given big credit here, they haven’t sold anyone (yet) and have backed Martin so far in market. Aren’t we one of the biggest spenders in league? Also we have paid compo for Martin and his staff.

To be fair... these owners have always spent what's available on players. You can even say that during their early years with us they spent way too much (on the wrong players) in an attempt to keep us up... that over spending probably put us back a few years financially getting us to this position where hopefully we can rebuild and progress.

Can put that down to them putting too much trust in Huw there

Genius. I bet other clubs wish they’d thought of that.

Do I get an inkling you're not a Grimes fan?

I don't much care either way, to be fair. Personally, I wouldn't want to break the bank for him, he's no Britton, Pratley or Bodde. But if Martin really wants him (he has to say the things he has in public, no matter what, to boost any potential value) then the club needs to at least be seen to try to back his judgement at this point in time.
