Have we got any other player with the ability to get the ball under the pressure Grimes is there. We need to get this boy tied down in my opinion. We need players that compliment him alongside, hopefully the Ipswich lad can do that, and Garner if we can get him with our own Dan Williams also. Smith will be on the sidelines for a few months I reckon.

He worries me slightly doing that kind of thing - in the way that Leon never did. Most, if not all of those clips, showed him running towards his own goal with a player up his backside. A slightly dodgy touch and we're in trouble. And he has a habit of playing the ball blind - normally towards our left back position (because he's left footed). Teams will work that out and start intercepting it. If the ball arrives to him on his wrong foot he's limited in what he can do. See what happens at 1min into that clip. Because the ball's on his right foot, the only pass he feels comfortable making is to Cabango on the touchline. A two-footed player would have the added option of playing a right footed pass forward.

I'd like to see us get in a genuine two-footed player to play that role. Actually not bothered if Grimes stays or goes.

Having watched those clips a few times it is both entertaining and risky. Steve is a good player but is getting and going to get caught. I believe we have the midfield but it will take time for the defenders to get into some sort of dominance playing a controlled ball to the centre midfield. At the end it looked like Grimes was doing too much and I suspect the defence was tiring. There's hope but it will take a while and may need a Plan B.

Starting again… obviously not much concern about him
Being cup tied… no sign of him going anywhere.

Fulham move seems off the table.

Tbh I'm quite excited that there is a chance he might stay, after the downes signing it means that matt can be pushed further up the pitch where imo he can be very useful.

Think we need Jonjo back to point him in the right direction :D

I still feel we may keep hold of Grimes, at the prices mentioned he is probably worth more to us to stay than to go

Clearly us keeping him is likely to be dependent on him signing a new contract as well

Still needs to be atleast one sale though surely? Ayew’s wages have no doubt taking a lot of strain off but I think we could see Roberts going, despite his injury, possibly cut price.

I think we can cope with the loss of ROberts better than the loss of Grimes?

Without doubt, especially if Laird comes.

We shall see! Would love it if grimes stayed and signed new contract.

Any news on Grimes?

Nothing has really changed. We want him to stay. At this minute in time he’s our player. He’ll be involved on Saturday. Behind the scenes there’s conversations going on. We’ll have to wait and see on that. No one here wants him to leave. I hope we can retain our good players and he’s one of them.

He’s the ultimate pro and he’s a brilliant captain. He loves it here. He’s really settled with his partner, loves the area and he’s got a great relationship with the fans, so i think he’s pretty aware of what he’s got here

Interesting the os pick this article..can see a contract being announced fairly soon.

The club are actively trying to keep grimesy here and discuss a new contract.

Surely the club and the owner needs to be given big credit here, they haven’t sold anyone (yet) and have backed Martin so far in market. Aren’t we one of the biggest spenders in league? Also we have paid compo for Martin and his staff.
