Matthew Grimes.

Most overrated Swans player in the last 20 years, captain, do me a favour, we might be able to get in a midfielder who doesn't pass backwards or sideways, it'll be interesting to see him in the PL, he'll probably play 5 or 6 games and then the manager will figure him out, and drop him, and he'll end up on loan in the Championship or still at the club who he just got relegated with.. bookmark

Sadly always looked capable of more than what we saw. Will go 1 of 2 ways when he leaves.

Great season a couple of years ago, and great performances every now and again since. We’ll find out when he leaves if this was down to him or Cooper

Not a fan of Grimes sorry. Way too inconsistent. Better than he was perhaps, but would be amazed to get any decent money for him.

Thank you and goodbye.

One of the best, and most underrated Swans midfielders, since the glory days of Leon, JdG and Michu. Thanks for your efforts.

Class.
I agree with your post, Matt Grimes is underrated and with a good positive manager he could be great for us.

FFS Mason Mount or Messi would be shit for us after 3 months of coaching from Blooper

Grimes is an example for me of so many players who went backwards after Cooper took over from Potter. Under Potter his eye for a pass was phenomenal and part of what made Dan James so deadly was how well Grimes was able to pick a pass into space for him to use his insane pace to run onto and break defensive lines.

You only need to look at Van der Hoorn too for a similar thing, his season under Potter he was the best defender in the league by a clear mile at breaking past the first press and picking out passes but under Cooper he was a shadow of that player with all the attacking instincts basically coached out of him.

Back on topic though, under a manager who will be able to get a tune out of him I think that Grimes will be a decent premier league player, not top 6 material but good enough to do a solid job as a holding midfielder for any other side. If we were offered £12million for him I would snap someone's hands off, I expect though for him to be sold for about £6-8million if someone came in for him.

One of the most difficult players to replace we have if you ask me. We’d need someone like Jo Allen to replace him, and even though a Premier league return is looking more and more out of his reach with every year he spends in Stoke, he’d still probably command a fee that’s out of our reach, or what the hedge funders are prepared to pay.

Grimes in the Premier League???

I'm guessing this is the Premier League of Turkmenistan?

A bit expensive but has everything IMO.

I actually liked the idea of the Potter experiment against Man City when he played Grimes as a centre back.

Would have liked to see if Potter would have worked on that more had he stayed.

If we can £12M for Grimes we should take it.. hopefully a new Manager and midfield will re-energise us all as fans

12 million 🤣

The fact that many think he is underrated and many think he is overrated proves to me that he is what I think he is...

An average, middle of the road, decent at times Championship player. Some games he looks good, some games he looks rubbish.

I'd be surprised if he'd end up as a Premier League regular...I think this is probably his level.
