Midfielder to join but there is a caveat…

Just chatting to some senior members at the club... Widell has been on the radar for some time. Talks have been ongoing since the Grimes news ever came out.

He's been at the top of the list of players the club wants... demand became high so were willing to do whatever it takes to get him.

There's a number of players still on the horizon, including a Grimes replacement... Widell was on the horizon even before the need to replace Grimes.
Any sign of Luke going?

Hopefully once the window is shut and we can concentrate on replacing him instead of players.
What a scenario to be in.

We can't sack a clearly struggling manager as the single person in charge of finding his replacement, is too busy trying to sign replacement players for our empty squad. Europe here we come!

Hearing anything on Darling going? You did break the news of him joining originally after all 🤣

Low initial payment for Widell and the rest in the summer when he finally comes over, which helps us juggle the issues we face with money.

Sounds like it was on the cards regardless of the Grimes situation and won't hit our budget massively in the next few days.

Could have done with him here straight away but we had to agree on the situation to get the deal over the line.

Sounds exciting

as in the recent past we come out of this window poorer in playing strength than we were going into it.
All the promises about target having been sort with preparation well advanced, have all come to nothing.
These players were not in the plans of the club coming into this window and seem more like panic buying.
It seems absolutely insane now that grimes is gone, to buy a player for £2.5 million only for him to miss the most important part of this season. We should invested in a player or players who can influence the team now and waited till we are in league one before splashing the cash
So no Grimes or Darling and, no striker worth his salt in our side, and we get another winger instead.

I can see cardiff going above us on goal diference with weekend and by mid march in the down zone.

all the other sides are buying players to strengthen their sides in the here-and-now
It won't happen this weekend, our goal difference is 3 better than theirs and we're home to Coventry whilst they're away to Leeds. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens in the next couple of weeks though

Could turn out to be a shrewd way to play it, but only if we sign a couple of midfielders for this window, ideally, one loan and one permanent. If it is this Galbraith on a perm and the guy from Salzburg on loan then I will feel more at ease.

Thanks for repeating what MM said in his post, this may turn out to be your most accurate post ever... ;)

I just can't see the Salzburg one. They recently paid 12m for him, i just think if he's available there'll be a few in for him too. Id love him here for the rest of the season though.

This Widell chap does look like the kind of player we need, even if we have to wait.

Time will tell if he'll be able to make it in the Championship, but as long as we don't try and coach all his instincts out of him, we'll at least have a high energy, attack-minded forward driving player in midfield. YouTube compilations obviously need to be approached with huge caution, but watch one of him and you're going to be impressed with how he plays the game. My biggest worry would be that we coach all the good things out of him, or tactically nullify him.
