• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

I'd love to knock it on the head. It's such a stress-buster on the weekend though, for me, and something I look forward to through the week - plus a nice bit of food or a takeaway. I know that's not great, but once you're in that cycle it's difficult to get out of. I exercise regularly and generally look after myself, but I do look forward to opening that bottle of wine on a Saturday afternoon/evening.
That’s where I am with it. Unless there is a social or work event I will generally avoid booze Sunday to Thursday, but come Friday afternoon I will try and put the working week behind me, either by going out or by cooking a nice meal with my wife. Same again on Saturday. Back to lime and soda on Sunday.

Thinking of it, although it would make sense to buy in bulk, I shan’t do it, wouldn’t be a good idea to have lots of beer lying around.
I shop in an English supermarket once a month but I haven’t really paid attention to the price of alcohol. I will have a look next time and see if it’s worth carting half a boot full half way across the country.

What’s your preferred tipple coops? I’ll do a quick couple of calculations for you, and see what your savings could be.

Staropramen 330ml although Tesco haven’t stocked them for some time. When they did the occasional 12 for £11 offer came along. If you cannot find the ENG v WAL comparison then have a look for Asahi.

Funnily enough, I think with those particular brands, there is no difference in price between England and Wales. Although I see Tesco have an offer on for the cans of Staropramen 11 quid for ten.

I’ve no doubt knocking it on the head is easier said than done. I’ve not touched alcohol now since December 2020, it wasn’t a conscious decision, it just sort of happened. Just wish I done it 20 years sooner

Thanks for these posts. I’d love a thread on here about alcohol, without branding people as problem drinkers or alcoholics, or even functioning alcoholics. There are probably plenty of people such as NJ who could give…I don’t want to use the word ‘advice’…but just general postings that would help people to a more healthier life.

Can you find an example?

You want an alcohol thread or a healthy lifestyle thread? The latter would cover all sorts of things beyond alcohol; processed food consumption should be the next big talking point, closely followed by exercise.

It’s a bit tricky to give an example, basically I have an account with Tesco and Asda, so I checked the prices in store locally, then looked at the website not signed in, which gives the England prices, and they were identical.

Ok, as we were then.

If you drink quality rather than quantity then minimum price per unit isn't applicable.

Me too. No booze at all Sunday to Thursday, between 8am and midday.

I enjoy my Saturday swig. It’s when I’m at my most relaxed. I have a few beers, maybe a bottle of wine later on. We have some kind of takeaway and watch a film. Sometimes I talk shit with you lot on here. I support the principle of a minimum unit price but the extra cash raised should have gone towards support for those with alcohol issues not in the pockets of retailers.
