New Deal For Jay Fulton

I’m delighted he’s signed a new contract.

The discussion then went to whether he could have demanded a massive signing on fee elsewhere as a free transfer.

That answer is entirely linked to his transfer value as a player, which unfortunately as a near 32 year old squad player is minimal to none, same for Joel Ward who also wouldn’t have been able to command a large signing on fee despite being free.

Ayew and Vipotnik without doubt would have had one when they signed for us for free, the likes of Joel and Jay wouldn’t be in a position to command such things though.
I would expect Fulton to have got some sort of signing on fee with us?
I could only envisage his pull to stay at the club might have been a factor for one not to have been offered or requested. I might be totally off the mark but if he hadn't signed a contract this week then he could have waited until the summer and probably had a few clubs offer him a similar wage that he has just signed with us and potential to have also had a signing on fee however minimal that would be.
I agree that I think it's a stretch to command a large fee for a player with the profile of Fulton. My view would be a modest 5 figure amount?

Definitely, but not the type Smurph has alluded to. Just a normal contract renewal one I would have thought.

Signing on fees don’t actually exist, I think they are called loyalty payments these days and every player has one according to Ben Foster.

So you get a fee for signing a contract and it’s spread over the length of your contract and you get it each year you are at the club.

Ayew or Vipotnik for example could command a major one when they were free because it would have normally cost millions to buy them.

Fulton however doesn’t really have much value attached, he’s probably a free transfer now for the rest of his career if he were to move so it probably cost the club very minimal.

A 31 year-old often brings leadership, reliability and in game intelligence. Clubs pay for certainty, not just potential. A proven player who can perform immediately.

A free transfer doesn’t mean free deal. It just means the previous club doesn’t get paid.

The player often still receives a sizeable bonus.

I'll leave it at that, I haven't got the energy to indulge your limpet posting behavior.

But that’s only if the player would usually command a fee.

If we put Jay on sale tomorrow, who do you think would be interested and for how much? I would suggest no club would pay any sort of fee and it would be a case of just taking on his salary + the normal loyalty fees.

You really shouldn’t discuss football if it upsets you when someone has a differing view. This sport is full of different views.

If you'd taken the time to read my original post, you'd understand that I was talking about Jay signing for another club on a Bosman.

As per, you've reverted to your bull in a China shop posting style.

No issue with people having different views, far from it. It's quite ironic you mention this when the only opinion which is correct is yours.

Take a moment to reflect and look at why a lot of posters don't engage with you or if they do it's constantly a negative experience.

123, Galbraith was signed as a midfielder.....

But I did read it, and responded to it.

Again - a major signing on bonus for an out of contract player only exists if that player has genuine intrinsic value (ie in lieu of a transfer fee).

Jay wouldn’t attract a transfer fee, so this scenario doesn’t really exist. It will be in the same category as Joel Ward, just a normal and standard loyalty fee.

From my vantage point it is you that constantly get remarks about their conduct, not me. Largely due to the sort of responses you are making here because you can’t fathom someone disagreeing with you.

It is you that makes personal remarks when a discussion doesn’t go your way, nobody else.

(And of course Galbraith was signed as a utility player as we currently see, another RB appearance I see…)

People just liked to argue for the sake of it on here these days but nobody should disagree that we’ve just signed a player on a 2 year contract that should be nowhere near our starting XI with the current squad we’ve got.
