New Manager

Trouble with option 2 is half the squad are off in summer, so there's no real value to letting him have a look at them.

Right now I'm inclined to just carry on as we are. Don't rush it, we don't even have to make an announcement about Sheehan being until end of season, just let it run on the current basis, keep the players guessing and on their toes. We know what they're like when they get too comfortable they go on long losing runs, so let them squirm until May, it's probably the kick up the arse they need.
I would agree with you, as I said, I am in the first option camp.

Treat the rest of the season as an audition for Sheehan at the very least.

Getting us playing well, keeping clean sheets and picking up results isn't making a good case for the job?

He's probably put himself ahead of your run of the mill applicants we've undoubtedly got.

My view is that a lot of our fans are holding out hope for someone who doesn't exist
No, I don’t believe it is.

This is a long term decision for our future and it shouldn’t be based on short term factors.

If Sheehan was the right long term person for the job, he’d have been appointed as the manager. He wasn’t. Nor was he last time. So the club don’t believe him to be the right long term solution and fans getting ahead of themselves on the basis of a few matches should play no part in the decision. It’s giving Coleman a cheap opt out.

Whether the club is able to appoint the right long term solution is a completely different question.

Sheehan has done an excellent job at getting us safe which is what he was tasked to do.

Nothing I’ve said detracts from that.

Added: I meant to point out that the last time we made a decision like this we appointed Monk as manager. And that was the decision that ultimately led to our subsequent collapse irrespective of our results in that first season. That’s the difference between short term and long term decisions being good ones.

He didnt want it last time, this time maybe he does, the club will take the cheapest option nevermind who everybody want IMHO it's his to lose if we win 6 of our remaining games it's his if he wants it.

Indeed he felt he still had much to learn about management after stepping in the last time
While its only been 10 games so far under his CV it does make pretty impressive reading

This comment assumes competency in those running our football club. We could very well assume that the better thing for this football club over the past few years is that we should have done the opposite of whatever we actually did.

That’s an excellent post.

He really is not.

He’s doing an excellent job at getting us safe which is what he needed to do, but that’s not what we need in the long term if we have any ambition.

I agree that the end of the season is probably the right time though. Assuming whoever we target is currently in a job. He has given us breathing space.
Precisely.

We aren't the catch we used to be; any potential manager will fall within our budget.

Coleman is sitting on the fence at the moment. If Sheehan keeps getting results, the job is his; otherwise, we will get a manager that falls within our pay scale. It is what it is troops.

Big Russ is the guest on Monday Night Football tomorrow if anyone wants to tune in to see his game analysis 😀

The Martinites will be creaming in their pants whilst the sane ones amongst us will be watching something else.

It won't be Colemans call ultimately.
