New Manager

You can't dismiss a guy because he's come through our system and not been a full time manager before. It should be decided on merit. He could be bang average or worse, he could be the next Brian Clough. That
should be determined in whatever process is used to select.

I remember the old Liverpool boot room boys, a string of managers appointed from within, each one had never managed a team before, each one seemingly better than the one before.

The problem is so many have rushed to call for his appointment based on the results of the last two games.
This next managerial appointments is crucial..we are now about to appoint our third manager in 2 years the 4 th in 4 each one of those previous appointments "failed" we can't afford to get this next one wrong.

You talk about appointing on merit Sheehan still has a way to go to earn some of that.
Yes he has got us our first win against a top six side yet but for some dodgy refereeing Williams could have got us a win against a top 2 side v Sheffield Utd.
Let's see how the next 4 games go before getting carried away

Have they?

I don't remember seeing many people call for Sheehan to be given the job on a permanent basis as a result of the last two games. I have seen plenty suggest that he not be automatically ruled out of it purely (it would appear) on the basis of previous associations.

In either case there's no rush. We look capable of acquiring the points we need for comfortable survival at present now we're not being managed by a piss poor Martin clone so there's no real need to make any kind of snap decision.

Totally agree there should be no rush focus needs to be on getting the points to stay up.

But this next appointment is critical

Absolutely.

I don't much care whether the next appointment is in a job or between them, but I would prefer someone with an appreciable track record behind him.

Three out of the last four managers we've appointed had very little, and it showed. Potter had spent seven years at Ostersunds before getting the job here and was the best of the lot. Cooper had no experience. Martin less than two years at MK. Williams similar spread between Swindon and Notts C.

Duff had about four years between Chelts and Barnsley, but looked like a bad fit.

Gotta say mind, what a song that is, the crowd and players all sang that together after the win against the Jambos last weekend and it was incredible in fairness 👍

There's a video of them singing it at Hamden after a cup which is incredible.

Best football song there is.

Here's my take, the players seem to be playing for AS, so I assume they like and respect him, he's doing a tidy job.
If we bring in someone new and that goes t!ts up within months, then what's the point, it's all a gamble, unless we bag Guardiola, and that ain't going to happen.
Caveat...yes I know it could turn to a ball of chalk with AS. For me we need to steady the ship, and we seem to be doing that just fine, on the face of it.🤷‍♂️

Yet Cooper despite his lack of experience got the club closest to promotion in both his seasons.
It depends on how success is measured I guess.
Was Potter the best?
He played some attractive football but in the eyes of the owners wasn't as successful as that of Cooper?

Tuesdays football got us a point but was a dire watch.

We arenin a situation where we fans want attractive entertaining football whilst the owners are looking for success and promotion to the PL and rhe riches it brings.

I'm fairness it's a bit soon after just 2 games to be sure.
It's no so long ago folk were banging on about Abdullai having been mismanaged here and how he was shining at Orient after scoring a hat trick....he has been on rhe bench of late and in fact had 3 minutes in their last game...

Cooper didn't have to deal with the fallout of relegation and the turnover of squad that Potter did. He had a much more stable set of circumstances and also had Ayew available to him.

To be fair we dont know who was making a mess of things round here. We do know AS is turning things around, I know its early doors, like I said, it's a gamble on anyone. If we go 5 unbeaten games with AS at the helm, then I cant see a problem in giving him the gig. It's s just me thinking allowed. 👍
