iPhone 14pro. You’ll get the hipsters commenting on some random make and exclaiming iPhones are for sheep no doubt.

Google Pixel for me. My son put me onto it. Got the 6 as it was cheaper due to the recent launch of the 7. Perfectly decent phone. Set up was a doddle, just plug the new phone into the old one and in 15 mins everything copied over. Transfer SIM to new phone and it's done. Phone has the cordless charging facility which in theory I can use in my car but in practice is too slow and causes the phone to heat up. I always buy a phone outright and then get a SIM only contract. I pay something dumb like £10 per month for unlimited everything with 3

Another shout out for the iPhone 14 Pro (the Pro Max is a little OTT). Outstanding camera and what I would say is the smoothest operating system of the lot, but this is just a personal preference).

I also have a 13 and the camera on that is also extremely good and a step up from 12 and it’s predecessors.

Being a skinflint but being in the iPhone fan club means having to make compromises.

I bought a used handset from Back Market. It arrived for a song given its excellent condition. It's an 11 Pro, and has a monster 256GB which means no more reloading of apps or having to pay for extra iCloud space, while costing me £9 a month SIM only.

It's definitely been one of my better phone decisions.

Another shout for Google Pixel, great phones with 3 years of updates guaranteed.

I have an iphone and an android phone and tbh they are both fine. The operating system on both are easy to use, with the android device being more customisable.

Personally I wouldn't buy an iphone as I believe they are overpriced for what they are. I would definitely consider the google pixel, but only the pro model. Samsung phones (S23) are great but again you are paying for the name - they do have excellent cameras.

My personal phone is a oneplus 8 pro, it's a couple of years old now but still does a great job for me

Apologies if this sounds like teaching granny to suck eggs. A sizeable phone memory is great however if you don't protect the valuable content inside a cloud storage space then you are at risk of loss if phone gets lost, becomes unrecoverable. Of course, it depends on how sentimental you are about photos, etc. Low risk of loss, but these things do happen.

It's a really good point, it always bugs me when people post that they've lost their phone with all of their photos on it. Cloud Storage is cheap. If you can afford a grand for a phone you can afford a couple of quid a month to back up whatever is on it.

I think I pay less than £3 a month for 200GB and this covers the needs of immediate family members. On my phone alone there are 40k photos and video's; they are mostly relevant and meaningful photos as I delete the rubbish. Whilst I don't look at them every day, I certainly wouldn't want to lose them. Phone set up from cloud was also a benefit before the Bluetooth option became available.

Cheers. I appreciate the cautionary note. And it's definitely something to bear in mind.

In my case I'm not too concerned.

Funnily enough, that's what Huw Edwards said

I'm a notorious non tekkie and a bit of a tight git, so I followed tinternet recommendations to buy my latest phone about a year ago and I'm very pleased with it - the Redmi Note 10 Pro. Cost about 230€ and it does everything I want, such as taking great photos and videos, accessing the internet very well and, oh yeah, making phone calls. It linked into my car phone system effortlessly. It's also a good size and feels solid, as the actress said to the bishop.
