Got a poll going on the other site too so would be good to get as broad a view as possible.

Seems to be a view that things are going well now after the Sunderland game. Wanted to see how widespread that thought is.

Isn't the question more about just do we think we are progressing?

Yesterday's game does not mean things are going well any more than they would have been three weeks ago? Its really about whether people think that since we appointed Martin we have improved and the "trusting" of the process is still the right thing to do?

Or have I missed something?

That's what a lot of fans see though, especially those that think Russ is doing a good / okay job. It justifies their backing of him.

Just papers of the cracks for me. On field and off field just seems like a pack of shite.

It's a mad thing - one good win does not make us world beaters any more than one poor defeat makes us relegation fodder.

Martin was appointed in August 2021 and the question for me is have we seen improvements in his time there that suggest everything he stands for and wants to deliver is something we are moving closer towards.

And the other part is that off the field stuff that you reference - Obafemi and Paterson appear to have been bad eggs, Oko Flex there were rumours of being a trouble maker - as much as these players don't help themselves there has to be some responsibility on the shoulders of those (not just Martin) paid to ensure harmony

Bordering on no.

A win against ten man Sunderland who we let back into the game papers over the cracks.

Need more consistent performances with much better defending.

The league table is very frustrating because whilst two teams are head and shoulders above the rest, third place is open to anyone who can become consistent and that very much includes us. If we’d given away half the goals we have by presenting them to the opposition we’d be comfortable in third and looking forward to the play offs.

Martin arrived in the season after we finished 4th and lost in the play off final in his first season we finished 15th and seem to be set to finish atound there this season

We seem to have lots of player issues.....is this all down to the players? Patterson by Martin's own admission was a player he wanted to bring here and now it seems this player is a bad egg....

For me Im not convinced he has the correct man management skills or the tactical ability...also he has a massive ego.
18 months into "the process" we seem to going backwards he ostracises players, plays other out of position such as playing Rhys Williams on the right side of the centre back when he is left footed and played for Liverpool on the left whilst playing Cabango on the left despite him being.. naturally right footed.

He still doesn't seem to be learning....I'm deemed negative as I am not a happy clapper and dare to be realistic in appraising results etc .....Cooper a hero no just always wanted to have a level playing fiewld

It's not even just Paterson, Oba and Oko. It's also Rhys Williams and Finley Burns who couldn't wait to get away, and Whittaker and the other guy whose name I have even forgotten - ah Kyle Joseph - that have been abandoned. Add that to the ridiculous faith in a few donkeys and players in terrible form before these and other players and you have a manager that had better succeed to justify his approach.

We are 15th. Last Season we were 15th. To have any credibility he needs to pull his finger out and get some consistency and a sense of progress and purpose. When he does that, the Copa fanboy can come and give it large and I'll admit my doubts (more than doubts) were ill founded. At the moment though, the only real rational assessment of Martin and Martinball is 'extremely disappointing'.

Some people will blindly defend him, because that's how they've set their stall out and aren't willing to change. Similarly, there are some who haven't rated him from the start, I think Cooper had his fair share of those. That's the way it goes I guess.

“ Fanboy” “ Give it large “ you’ve just given your age away Motormouth.

Plus the attempts that Phil mentioned to pin the reason why Oko-Flex failed to get a fair look in as down to his alleged bad attitude. Russy sure is unlucky to have all these players at the same time who are apparently disruptive and not willing to put the effort in.

Unless of course the players are not the problem.

We appear to be completely aligned in thought there.

As Neath confirms though, there appears to be a thought that wins in the present justifies the past.

Someone was on here asking if due to the Sunderland win, those who had been critical in the past were willing to admit they were wrong, similar theme on the other forum.

Just want to get a broad view of it, but I’m slowly getting the answer judging by the responses. They appear somewhat aligned also.

What’s getting aligned butt, half a dozen posts on this thread out of a home crowd of around 15,000.
I appreciate that you can only work with the tools you’ve got but this is hardly up there with a Mori poll is it.

That’s what polls are, I’m not asking for every single view of anyone who has any connection to the club.

I am looking for a cross section to extrapolate out. I understand you may not like the way it’s going but I suppose that’s what happens when common sense takes over.

Under Martin we have spent 80-90% of the time in the bottom half, if you are happy with that then crack on.

The positives:
1. The emergence of some reasonable talent from the academy
2. Budgets are not massively out of control and the owners have been prepared to sanction transfer fees for signings
3. The #doube.

The negatives:
1. This squad is capable of delivering better results than it has
2. Our use of the loan market has not been great
3. The apparent disconnect between recruitment team and Russell Martin
4. Martin doesn't appear to be a great man manager, not great when he is the manager
5. The view of some of the Martinball from the stands has been excruciating.

Overall, it's a no from me. There was some chatter about a contract extension for Martin a little while back, what is his current end of contract date?
