Championship clubs (16) voted to move to a new system of Squad Cost Rules

SCR benefits clubs with bigger stadiums and lucrative sponsorship deals as it effectively creates a larger budget to spend on players.

Not sure whether this is good or bad for us

I’d be interested to see the breakdown in votes. Also is it this seasons teams or next seasons teams that were voting?

To me it’s strange that if you happen to be in the PL in a particular season you get a vote on particular issue, but if you are out of the league for just that one season you don’t.

Would benefit the ‘bigger’ clubs, but I always thought it should be 1 vote for every season you spent in the PL whenever they are trying to pass things that directly or indirectly impact the EFL.

Don't think we have many lucrative sponsorship deals and our stadium would probably be one of the smallest in the division, so on that basis it's not good news.

It's not stadium size but how many turn up and spend their money that's important. And we were 20th out of 24 in attendances this season, with one of those below us being Wr*xh*m, who have all that sponsorship cash sloshing around. Not great for us, I'd say.

Isn’t there talk of a massive sponsor this summer? So could work in our favour I guess.

Don’t know what to make of the new rules other than the fact they are designed to benefit clubs with bigger revenue streams. I suppose you could say those clubs would always have been able to spend more but look at Wrexham, they have half our stadium capacity but can spend a hell of a lot more because of their ownership. There will be cases like that. I’m personally not a fan of the fact that it further encourages the commercialisation of football but that’s where we are. Clubs will definitely end up prioritising sponsorship deals etc. if they haven’t already.

Could be coming in at the right time if those rumours are true about us getting a big sponsor this summer. I don’t like it but it’s what we need to do to compete and survive.

I hope i'm wrong, but I get the feeling that this "big sponsor" is going to be a bit like the "wow signing". Gorringe shouldn't have said anything about it :ROFLMAO:

Haven't clubs with bigger revenues always had an advantage look at the "big" six clubs in England, the old firm, Barca and Real Madrid, The Italian "Giants", Bayern ....

What needs to be addressed is unfair advantage gained from rich benefactors as this invariably ruins the club.

I'm all for spending within your means, it just depends how those means are obtained. Sadly there will always be clubs that try and circumnavigate the rules such as Man City, Chelsea, Leicester etc

But some manage to get away with and some don't

This summer or next?. Transfer market explosion.

If clubs have to adhere to spending 85% of revenue on players then how many players are going to be sold by each club to get from the current 110% average down to 85%

Does it mean downgrading squads to meet that 85 threshold? Does it mean crappier teams overall in the league with lower quality players?

Swansea City's operational costs significantly exceed their revenue, with the club's annual accounts revealing an unsustainable wage-to-income ratio of approximately 130%. While recent total turnover sits at around £22.3 million, player wages alone account for £29 million

Can’t see too many taking pay cuts overnight, so would suggest it’ll result in smaller squads and more minutes for academy players in the short term once the rules kick in.

Where has this big sponsor talk even come from? I remember watching that podcast episode he did a while back and he never mentioned anything of the sort.
Didn’t he say the sponsor they have lined up is bigger than anything we had in the Premier League?
