S25/26 | The Official Match Thread | Wrexham FC 2 Swansea City 0 | Att: 10,641 (1,283 Jacks) | 13.03.26 | The EFL Championship | The STōK Cae Ras

One of Phil Parkinson's post match comments. Bitingly true unfortunately, it's the way we can often be 🤔..but in fairness to Victor nothing like Russball..

"They like to keep the ball, sometimes they don't do much with it, but they can make you uncomfortable"

So what was the thinking behind putting Cullen on the wing? Because I'm f**ked if i can fathom it out.

Cullen was meant to drop inside and be a second striker occupying the centre-halves - leaving Key as the wide outlet.
But, as is his want, he just drops deep and is ineffectual.

Im yet to see anything from Walta which gives me any sort of hope to be brutally honest.

Matos seems to think the same aswell which is worrying.
Walta shouldn’t be judged as a typical signing in my opinion. He isn’t match fit which will make a huge difference. We have to keep the faith with him, 16 goals from midfield isn’t nothing.

Hang on now!
Walta is a young chap in a new country, he was on his off season when he joined us.
He has no experience in British football and can't be judged on this alone after 6 weeks.

He needs to be bedded in but we now have 8 games to do that.
I will also say, if Yalcouye isn't going to be here next season then it's time to use him less between now and the end of the season.

We did enough with it to have scored a couple of goals and got a penalty….he’s talking shite.

I fear that we're going to have to put up with this circus for at least another year in the Championship.
I don't see them going up but they'll spend big in the summer and be one of the favourites next season.
If they end up in the playoffs they’ll go up imo.

It’s written in the stars.

And if and when they do, they’ll have a hell of a budget. They were talking about them playing Liverpool at Yankee stadium this summer. Their commercial reach is huge.

All about selling our allocation, job done, but as much of a darby as Bristol City in the real world
It’s not a derby even slightly. Nowhere near as much as Bristol.

But at the start of the season, we launched our kit by shouting out to Wrexham.

It’s about trying to get some of their reach, which is what it is, but we can’t then moan that others are trying to link the two clubs.

I’m more than happy to be patient with him, Widell and Inoussa but we need at least 1 of them to have a big impact next season and ideally the other two play a part as well.

As I mentioned earlier they need as many minutes as possible with the pressure off for the remainder of the season.

No need to panic, can see the signs of Matos doing a good job and putting an effective team together.

Idah, Yalcouye, Widdell, Walta, Nunes, Benson and Inoussa have all barely had an impact on the team so far this season and that must be £20m and rising between them. That is all the new attacking talent we signed. It is clearly hindering Matos and limiting how much he can get out of the side and taking advantage of the moments we dominate. Vipotnik can not be responsible for every goal.

The lack of impact from the players above is a big concern, but a slight concern is how mediocre the central defenders have been. I could be talked in to wanting an upgrade on both, Ben has been a great servant but he is limited. In the next two months it feels like it would be wise to have Walta and Widell playing as much as possible to make it easier for them to hit the ground running next season.

What a gem Ethan Galbraith is, it is great to have him back in midfield.

We go again.
Idah and Inousa have been injured most of the time since Matos has been here. Walta is still basically in his preseason. Widell has had some bad games recently granted. The rest are loans and not our Players. Cbs are an issue Burges is too slow and looks like Bambi on ice. He’s not getting any younger next season we need to replace him.

Should have been 2-0 up before they even had a sniff.
Ref "missed" two penalties.

As soon as they scored they just stuck 11 men behind the ball and we just aren't equipped to break that down yet.

I'm not a big Cullen fan and sticking him on the wing completely killed us second half. I understand the thinking but we needed to stretch them and get in behind the wing backs and Cullen is not the player to do any of that.
thats the diff 2 chances for us first half nil goals 1 chance for them 1 goal , As i have said in other posts the squad is getting there its the depth of quality that is lacking , highlighted tonight in the final 3rd
Well done wrexham good luck for the rest of the season
Swansea we need to put this game behind us and concentrate as MUCH harder games coming up, and we have to show we can match the teams above us with what we have today before thinking we can go for playoffs next season a lot of hard work on and off the field to be done before the end of the season

They have become America’s Soccer club, it’s a powerful thing for them. I can’t say I have too much jealousy or envy, if it were Cardiff then that’s a totally different story.

And anyone who reckons Key is back to his best needs to have their heads read, have a look at the amount of space he allowed their wide men.

This is the thing. If you are going to play like that, you need that player ala Siggy in midfield who has that quality....hopefully that will be Walta
Or
A player like Sinclair on the wing, someone who can bring that goal threat.

I've said it before but if our model is to buy young from foreign leagues we have to give the players time to settle.

Players like Inoussa, Yalcouye and Widell have cumulatively played around just 3,000 minutes in one of the most physically demanding leagues in the world. None of them have had a run of games where they start and are allowed to grow into the league.

If they are in the same position at the end of next season then fair enough; but to judge early 20s players, in a new country, in a new league on about 11 games worth of minutes is a bit early.

I am not really judging, although I could go through my opinions on each player individually but just stating a fact about their lack of impact, which is a concern and can not be ignored out of blind faith.

Some will improve and some will not be here. The conundrum is deciding who to commit to as a serious player for us and who to move on from early. Maybe it will be none of them, but if we went into next season with no signs before the summer of improvement, it would be a gamble to just go again with the same group assuming they turn into starters and hoping a couple turn into great Championship attackers. Matos will also have an influence. He, like Sheehan, clearly favours the likes of Eom and Cullen over the new boys and it may be difficult to sell any of them to create the room for the upgrades needed. Same with Ronald. So if we are going into the next season with Eom, Ronald, Cullen, Widell, Walta and Inoussa there will be space for another right winger at least but then maybe that is it unless someone leaves. Based on what I have seen, the right winger would have to be great from the first game to help that attacking group have an attempt at a play-off finish. It is unrealistic to expect players to not improve, but also unrealistic to expect players to suddenly improve from 5/10 to 8/10 over the course of a summer.

We did it last summer with Bianchini and correctly moved on early to make room for players we hoped would be an upgrade.
