I was there at St Mary’s in Feb 2015 when we set up with 11 men in front of our net, did nothing for 89 minutes and took three points with spawny goal. We didn’t rob anyone today, they dropped two points because of their carelessness.

Vp had 0 service today. Can't really overly blame him. Today.

I agree. I think we are a team who might not give their no.9 much service in a lot of games. He has made a lot of a little so far this season. It may be worth giving our expensive new no.9 a start to see if he can offer something different to the current mix.

Bit early to make a statement such as that.
We are just one point abead of where we were this time last season....the football gods were with us today it coulld have been a 3 nil hammering.
How are you so sure we wont flirt with relegation?
How many games in reality so far this season have we looked comfortable for ling periods of the game?

I think the thing that would bring relegation worries quickest right now is the unknown if we got rid of Sheehan. Today was bad, but in every other game we are competitive and we look like a midtable side who will win some and lose some and draw some and survive comfortably.

Unless we go on a run of multiple successive defeats, he should remain for a while yet. Even if the club internally decide to replace him but let him stay in charge for the short term until the right replacement is there. The club seem to like their data nowadays and I am sure it will not be beyond them that we just do not look like a side capable of creating many chances or scoring many goals and they will know it is hard to consistently win without that. I am slightly sceptical, but if Sheehan can add that at some point consistently in the next couple of months then it will be a positive step. If we are still struggling to create multiple chances a game from open play after that, then maybe it is time to prepare for a new manager even if it does not actually happen until next season.

That may sound accepting of mediocrity but these things need time to truly see what is working and what is not.

Exactly.

I don't think anyone would even make a case that we're a good watch this season so far. Even the games we've won we've ground them out. But we're generally solid (apart from today), we stay in games, and that is a world away from the nonsense of the previous 4 years.

Unfortunately, some people want us to run before we can walk. These things take time.

I agree, but AS needs to stop persisting with the same old, same old, and expecting a different result. We all know what that’s a definition of.

We just played two relegated Premier League teams in a row. Their combined squad values are stratospheric compared to ours. We held Southampton to a draw and competed very well against Leicester, despite the final score. Talking about replacing Sheehan is ridiculous at best, at worst it smacks of an agenda.

Did he persist with the same old today, though? The starting line-up may have been predictable, but the way the wingers were so isolated and dependent on long passes suggested to me that Sheehan expected Southampton to counter-attack with pace and told his full backs to stay back in our half. Like Burnley last season it wasn’t thrilling entertainment but a point away from home is promotion form…

I enjoyed that game, on balance. Enough skill on both sides to be entertaining, although there was too much aerial ping-pong for my liking. Both defences did really well. Southampton played more like an away team, relying on counter-attacks to create goal scoring opportunities. Referee was terrible. We created very little, because Ronald kept tracking back and Inoussa had no support. Away supporters were relatively quiet but more focussed on watching the game than winding up the home supporters (thank the Lord). Relieved that we did not concede a 97th minute goal.
Enjoyed? Are you on acid?

I’ve seen the Swans slaughtered by superior teams on more occasions than I can count, seen Julian Alsop head a ball and then look around to see where it might have gone, been kettled by the police at Millwall, attacked by skinheads at Arsenal and bricked at Luton. Today I attended a good natured football match with my son and daughter, enjoyed watching some good passing football (with massive room for improvement), had a pleasant pint with one my best mates (who is a Saints fan) afterwards. So yes, I did enjoy the day thanks for asking.

How am I so sure?

Because we've upgraded quite well in summer, the midfield has good depth and Burgess is definitely better than Darling. Plus we've started this season decently, not spectacularly, but ok.

I'm not sold on the theory we should be playoff material but I think we've got more than enough about us to be comfy mid-table. I'm not even thinking about relegation this season and that represents progress in my view.

Sorry but that's rubbish. We've got the joint 5th/6th best record for goals conceded. Today yes we were poor and gave up loads of chances, but in most games this season we've given very little away.

By all means have concerns about us being a total non entity as an attacking threat (I agree on that) but let's not make stuff

Most squads in the Premier league era were worth way more than ours, did that bother us?

The acid did help too.

Glad you enjoyed the day, but the match was garbage. If we had lost 5-0 we could have had no complaints. Had 9 touches in their box in 99 minutes of football ( one every 11 minutes) , a truly awful statistic.
