Worldies!!

That phrase is attributed to far too many goals, I would argue no worldies have been scored in a Swansea game this season, good goals yes but worldies.

In fact I haven't seen a worldie in the Championship (or premier league) as a whole this season.
Franco vs Man City and VIp 1st vs Norwich are worldies.

If Thierry Small's goal against us for Preston last week wasn't a worldie, I'd love to know what is.

There is a rot around the club that three or four managers and Risca’s new US boys haven’t been able to sort out, in fact Cravatt and co have got us in to a worse position at this moment in time. There is an arrogant playing culture of walking the ball in to the opposition half and then eventually when we get in to the attacking third we pass it back until we lose it in our own half, rinse and repeat.

I’ve been saying for a few seasons that we need to get away from these copy and paste managers which in reality started with Brodge. No more please, no more inventing passing and having a ‘philosophy’.

If it’s a name that has been mentioned on here already I don’t want him.

All teams have philosophies though, even changing the way you set up based on opposition is a philosophy.

Having a way of playing isn’t the problem in my opinion, in fact, I ‘d say you can’t get on in football without one. The big problem we had was the previous owners lack of resources/interest. Now that seems to be solved and the only mistake the new owners have made so far is give the manager role to an interim, which they had to do.

There's been no shortage of resources pumped in since we got relegated. It was more than £10m a year even with Levien and co. We reached the playoffs in two out of the first three seasons following our relegation.

The single biggest mistake we made was allowing Russell Martin to stink the place out for two entire years instead of getting shot of him after about three or four months into his first season when it became obvious that he was a wrong un, and then reacting to the failure of Duff by appointing Martin MkII.

We've effectively spent four years trying to make an increasingly out of date footballing philosophy work and spent an absolute fortune in the process. The way we've been trying to play is basically the entire problem and has led to the malaise amongst the support. Slow, boring, possession obsessed crap.

I agree that the way we’ve been playing has been slow and boring for the most part over the past few years. My argument is that, just because we’ve handled it poorly, it doesn’t mean that having a philosophy or a way of playing is a bad thing, I think it’s essential to be honest.

I will also argue that there was increasing neglect by the previous ownership who continuously let contracts run down and let the squad get thinner and thinner year after year. Could it have been worse? Yes, there is always a Sheffield Wednesday situation but that doesn’t mean ours weren’t taking us backwards.
