Shooting in America

People walk into supermarkets and come out with semi automatic rifles designed for fighting wars, in their trolley

Anyone who thinks that's ok in a modern civilised country is off their trolley

Our former poster Davillin was obviously an intelligent and educated man who was a pleasure to talk to on almost any subject. The exceptions were politics and guns.

I never got a coherent answer from him on how an intelligent person could look at gun death statistics in America and not be in favour of more gun control.

It's always puzzling to see an American citizen talk about how it's 'the greatest country in the world' while also being fiercely against gun control as they need their guns to defend themselves from their own government...

Great post. How anyone can be against some kind of control is baffling.

You get the country you deserve most of the time. Kids getting mown down in schools is a price many Americans are willing to pay if it means they get to keep their AR-15 in case the guv'ment gets way too big for their boots.

For instance Tummer will happily keep the federal government out of Texas's energy grid even though kids literally froze to death in his state a few weeks ago because Texas runs its own power supply. Tummer's happy to pay that price in literal dead children in the wealthiest nation in the world because it keeps the federal government out of Texas. And nothing will change because Texas gleefully elects cowards like Ted Cruz who ran away to Mexico while his constituents were dying. If you're willing to vote for that kind of politician then what else would you expect.

For more examples, see us with Boris Johnson. Longer lockdowns, higher death rates, deeper recession + Brexit on top and don't be surprised when a drop in your standard of living starts to affect the living.
