I'm sure you would keep abreast of these developments but a heads up just in case - read in this morning's paper that France might be removed from the airbridge list meaning a 2 week quarantine on return to UK.

Based on that we ended up flying to Venice. Staying on the Lido to get the beach bit done and in Venice for the last few days (for anniversary) - any top tips while we are here?
Pizza is fairly reasonable but second course seems expensive wherever you go. Limited choice of food if you are wheat intolerant. Beer is same price but local prosecco is around 10 euros a litre.

Much better VFM when you go a couple of blocks off piste. Quality also better.

Venice is great, we had a few days there about four years ago. Cracking break it was

I love staying on the lido, you get to arrive in Venice every day from there and that view as you arrive. Get off at the stop AFTER the St Marks stop.
Stayed at the Hotel Riviera opposite the vaporetto terminal and the posh multi coloured Ausonia Hungaria a little bit down the main street and liked them both.
If you've got the vaporetto travel pass I recommend going to Burano, very colourful and pretty. Take a bite to eat and drink, it's about an hour each way.
Walking from the Hungaria to the ferry there is a biggish clothes shop on the opposite side of road. Hidden within this there is a big supermarket that the locals use. Cheap as well. We got food and drink for a picnic, got off the first ferry stop to St Marks and had a picnic on the front while watching the sun go down over Venice. It's about a 30 minute walk to the square from there. Lovely walk and bars on your way.
From the Lido, every other vaporetto has seats at the front and they're only 12 minutes apart so if yours hasn't, wait for the next at the front of the queue and sit on the right. Number 1 and 5.1 go up the grand canal so it's a great cruise.
Foodwise, look up Maria's near the university 3 course meal with wine and water is around €15, but you get what she cooks, 2 choice max, and it's packed with locals.
As you get off vaporetto at lido, the bar to the right across the road is cheap. Aperol spritzer is €3-4. Free rooftop view of Venice from the very posh department store in the old post office near Rialto bridge. Lovely views down the grand canal.

Go and have a stand up lunch at Bar All'Arco down the backstreets about 200m from the Rialto Bridge. Not easy to find, Google it. World famous, been on Rick Stein and Franco de Mosta. You go in, buy chicetti from the counter (little sandwiches, all superb, Parma ham, fresh seafood) and a glass of plonk then take it outside, stand up or get a rough table if you're lucky and mix with the locals and international visitors. Great grub, very atmospheric location, you'll think you're an extra in 'Merchant of Venice'.

Be aware that the All'Arco is closed on a Monday
and don't get caught out and ripped off like we were once. If there are no prices and no locals there's a reason. Some good chicetti places around the morning fish and vegetable/fruit market as well which is worth a visit itself. Good call avoiding France after last night's news.

We are staying close to Saint Marks square and have to get off at San Marco Zaccaria when we get off the water boat and walk with our luggage. Sounds like fun. All the tips sound great and will be trying them. We have two vegetarians with us so maybe they don't come to Marias.
The Lido is fabulous and the water is so warm. That shopping street is bonkers, we have another 3 nights here before Venice.

Another personal recommendation I've eaten at is Osteria Bea Vita in the Cannaregio district near the Ghetto. Canalside bistro, a bit off the tourist track, very good value at lunchtime, dearer in the evening. Check out my review on Trip Advisor. Nearest vaporetto stop about five/ten minutes away, Three Arches.

We are on Lido di Jesolo so maybe a bit of confusion. Hope we don't have any issues when we take our cases on the vaporetta to San Marco but are there decent supermarkets close to San Marco square or should we grap provisions before we leave. I am quire excited as I havent been this close to Venice since 1990

Oh I thought you were on Venice lido, the beach isn't great there. No idea about supermarkets in Venice itself as we've only stayed on the Venice lido. I'd buy provisions beforehand and then go from there. We found it very easy to get lost in Venice. What about the Cafe Florian in St Marks Square for an anniversary treat ? t's not cheap but looks special. Too expensive for me.

She really knows her food taught by one one of the best.

Ro be fair, the beach is lovely where we are - it is private too. The sea is so warm I am rethinking my holidays from now on but Venice lido with a water pass looks so inviting. I want a beach with something historical attached.

If you use a water bus in Venice you MUST validate your ticket before boarding or risk a fine. As we were staying on Venice Lido we used to get a 3day pass. It's activated the first time you use it. Single journeys are expensive. Hope this helps.

Think we will get a single from punto sabbioni _ it may be 7,50 each or maybe more. Considering 3 day ticket but you can't use it on the alilaguna

Last time we got a private motor boat from the airport, it was around €180 as a one off for 4 of us but that included a detour down the length of the grand canal and on to the lido. I think it's about €110 per boat from around St marks to the airport, you can always ask when you're there. If I had the money I'd do it every time. We got the airport bus back from opposite side of canal to the train station. Think it was about €8 each. You don't see anything from the alilaguna boats, you're sitting below deck if you like but it got us there.

To be honest I am a bit concerned about the waterboat with all our luggage to san Marco and always looking for alternatives,

The alilaguna was fine, they do it everyday, it was just that I was expecting to see stuff from it but as you're below deck if you like, you can't really see much.

Funnily enough the Mrs found our bus receipt yesterday. We had to book in advance. It's available for the day you book for and you then show the driver your ticket. We printed the ticket out beforehand. It was €7 in 2018. You may be able to download ticket to your phone, but you'd have to check.

NOTE: I'm assuming you're flying from MARCO POLO Airport.
