I was chatting to a friend over the weekend about the Summer investment arriving in the club in the form of huge sponsorship deals… quoting Tom Gorringe ‘the biggest sponsorship deal the club has ever seen’

On the weekend my friend and I were discussing if either knew who said sponsor may be? I didn’t have a clue but he suggested the potential of Deathrow Records being the front of shirt sponsor.

It would make massive sense.

1. A huge tax right off for Deathrow
2. Shirt sales across the world would be astronomical

Even if they aren’t the main shirt sponsor then they should at least bring out a 3rd kit sponsored by them.

With how clever the marketing department have been recently… I can’t imagine it’s not been proposed. A Deathrow Records kit has the potential to be one of the biggest selling kits of any football team - the reach of Deathrow can’t be underestimated.

No inside info here at all… just 2 mates hypothesising.

I think this is possible, but Death Row are a bit mythologised rather than a huge label at this point. Virtually all of their existing artists are just Snoop Dogg and his mates, and Snoop's recent output is not a career high to say the least. In essence, I'm not actually sure there's a huge amount for the label to kickback from with a shirt sponsor

Huge appeal for us gen-x lot, but otherwise, yeah - I see your point. Still though, it would be amazing to see.

It’s exciting to think that we may be able to shop in a different market if that is what would happen if money does come in this summer.

Although you’d think that our wage bill would have to go up, that was reportedly the stumbling block with our more ambitious targets last summer. Can be a slippery slope though as we found out when we got relegated.

I'd say, at this point, the main shirt sponsor is more likely to be Legends than it would be Death Row Records.

Hell, it could even be MarthaStewart.com!

Its not a front of the shirt sponsor. We have Reviva for "at least" one more season.

Interesting thought.

I believe we recently reupped with Joma, right? If that contract were up soon, I could almost see Legends attempting to get into the kit business starting with us. A Legends kit with Capital One as a sponsor (through Nigel Morris) or perhaps the previously mentioned Death Row.

I personally think this summers “huge investment” is the same as last summers “wow signing”, it’s more fan talk than reality.

Our sponsorships, being a small club in the back of beyond, up until now has been minimal. Now Snoop and co are on board then I have no doubt it will be higher than it’s been at this level for us, but we are probably talking an extra £1 million or so.

Nice, but not something that will transform us into different markets.

Normally I would agree with you, but it seems this isn't coming from the supporters. This is coming directly from Tom Gorringe.

He’s not said anything about massive investment though, unless I’ve missed it.

He just said there are now bigger commercial deals available to the club next year due to the connection to celebrity.

He has specifically said that the club had a commercial deal already lined up that would be the largest in the club's history.

But what was our record before that? I think it was GWFX, which I think was £2 million.

So lets say we beat that by 500k and it’s now £2.5m shirt sponsorship instead of maybe 500k (guess).

It’s not going to catapult us into the stratosphere. Fans appear to be taking this and running with it and it’s growing arms and legs.
