Summer Transfer Window

Shankland had an indifferent season goalscoring wise last season, only 9 scored compared to 31 the previous season. However his 10 assists was comfortably a career best. 43 appearances too so no sign of injuries taking their toll.

He's clearly strong in the air and his assists tally and chances created (50 in 2023/24, best in league) show he's far more than just a goalscorer. Unlikely we'd be after him because of his age, but I hope we're flexible enough in our approach to at least look into it.

Out of curiosity, where have you heard about this wow story?
You seem quite confident in it.

I hope it's not someone like Bobby Clarke.
He’s doesn’t know the players name or anything so don’t know how you can judge it as a WOW signing, McBurnie might be a big signing for some and a let down for others, but fair play to him if something big is cooking behind the scenes.

Fair enough, but I've seen a bit of Shankland with my eyeballs last season rather than FotMob "stats", he's about two stones overweight and lost 3 yards of pace.
Saying that, he's still young enough to get himself back into shape. Would rather give Yates another go, make of that what you will...

Someone has told him about this wow signing, who is this person and what's their background to be believed. This is what I would like to know.

He could just be having a laugh at us all and pulling our leg, he’s a new poster is he not? No idea if he’s reliable, but even reliable posters get stuff wrong or deals change Darling staying and O Brien coming back for example.

Santos deserves the benefit of doubt and the opportunity to prove himself, however even as a replacement for Christie this is a disappointing signing.

What does it say?

Our youngsters are not good enough to step in when required (and let's face it Christie wasn't required a lot last season).

We don't have a pot to piss in !!

Montague has zero contacts / knowledge other than the lower leagues.

Or maybe we have pulled of a blinder and beat a host of clubs to his signature (I wonder what offers he actually had because his current L1 club didn't make him an offer).
Well this was a positive post. As many said you don't just throw in under 21 players into a position to see if they sink or swim, especially in this role. You surround them by experience and or send them on loan to League 1 or 2. To say Montague has zero knowledge other than lower leagues is nuts. What do you want us to sign Harland from Man City. I am pretty confident that many if not all the recent signings has been positive step forward. Many slagged off Vigs. Look at him now. If this goes wrong then so be it. We need back up and with someone with experience. I would love an up and comer who could be the next big thing. But it's a hell of a risk and the club are not stupid.

It's a huge ask for a youngster to go straight from academy football into a Championship side, especially at centre back. Lissah sounds promising but he needs experience on loan before he can seriously challenge for a first team place.
If a player is good enough then age is no barrier.

Christie played 276 minutes accross 11 games last season (and 66 minutes in the FA Cup). So if Santos is taking Christie's place in the squad then it seems to me that Lissah isn't deemed anywhere near ready and what does say for the academy pathway.

Let’s be honest, Christie was as good as useless as a centre back.

So this guy can’t be any worse.

Seems tho he’s got experience and having been in team of the season 3 times and Bolton’s captain then he cant be all that bad.
Christie, first time with us he was good. But damn was he over weight, slow and just bad., second time. I am not a fan of everyone saying Santos is just a Christie replacement. Yes he will be back up, but others need to see what he can bring. Give the lad a chance he hasn't even stepped into the building as you said he comes with experience.
