Summer Transfer Window

Yates is a HARD NO for me. We speculate on the worth of players we have hardly seen..with Yates we have a lot of hard evidence on what he offers. Here is my summary
1. No pace
2. Hard worker in the press
3. Totally incapable of winning physical challenges
4. Uses the ball quite well when he gets it
5. Scores about once a month from open play on average
6. Scores in bursts of 2-3 games then the guns fall silent
And here is the disqualifier for me
7. Is constantly on his heels and fails to react quickly - and fails with movement in the box to offer a target or get in front of defenders
Needs to be sold - and i would take ANY reasonable offer.
I am just waiting for the announcement he has gone. A player that can bring alot to the right team, but one that needs to sold now and will be due to 1 year left on his contract. No doubt he works hard, but he always runs and then suddenly stops. I won't start a debate. But let's get someone else in
Let's hope it doesn't drag on.

Yates as backup is a retrograde step. He just isn't good enough teams he plays for finish in the bottom half of the Championship and flirt with or get relegated.

Why do you think Derby are not chomping at the bit for him ?
Or the other way to look at it is that he has hit double figures despite playing for several sides who were getting relegated (Blackpool) or were in relegation battles (Derby, us for most of 23/24) consistently over the past 4 years

We've seen Yates under two managers. Under Duff he did reasonably well, under Williams he struggled.

As he was far from the only attacking player made to look like he was playing in leg irons by our esteemed Van Driver/Luggage Handler it might be best to hold off judgement for now.

I wouldn't complain if we signed Poku, but is it needed? We have lots of cover now. And we still don't know if Ginnerly is going to kick on. We have Bianchini, Eom, Govea, Ronald, Parker, Zeidane, and I might be missing someone? Also all of this McBurnie talk. Is he really going to take a massive pay cut at his age going from a few years ago - being sold for a lot of money to suddenly taking very little - to a club he loves? This might be his last big pay day. I might be wrong. I think we are looking for a Striker, Midfield and Defense. From what's being reported. But not the above.
Who's Ginnerly?

Fair point, but the club will sell. So not sure how waiting to see what he does or5m can bring will do other than money wasted that can be used on another player.

My thought is similar regards Poku.
Happy to go with Eom,Ronald and Inoussa fighting it out for 2 spots with Bianchini in the background also being an option up top from the bench.

I don't disagree that a sale is more likely. With one year left on his contract the club will be looking to recoup a fee. I just won't be all that bothered if he's still part of the squad when the window closes.

Or you could look at the fact he has finished 22nd, 39th, 10th & 44th in the Championship scoring charts over the past 4 years

Jerry Yates scores around 1 in 4 (in the Championship) and is streaky when doing this, going long periods with no goals (he does not assist much either).

He is not reliable and I wouldn't want him even as 3rd or 4th choice. He was a poor signing and we need to move on. I will be disappointed if he is still a Swansea player at the end of this transfer window.

He is someone who gets around 10 goals for a struggling championship club.
I always think what players like Yates could score in a better team that creates more chances.
