Tata works at Port Talbot is responsible for 5% of income for this country, it employs thousands both directly and indirectly, the pollution has been reduced markedly over the years. If it was to be closed the impact on pollution in Wales would be negligible, whereas the jobs and income lost would impact massively both on South Wales and Wales as a nation.
Just like people are disparaging of the valley communities today, many were happy to benefit from coal and steel at the time of their heyday, just look at the impact on Wales since their closure.
By the way the county of Neath Port Talbot has one of the highest % of green areas in South Wales in particular trees per % of population.
A much understated and friendly town, the odd smell or noise only adds to its charm.
