I think we went up in the play offs beating Rotherham then Torquay over two legs. I was one of the “Torquay 300” (all the tickets they’d let us have) and got soaked being kept in for ages afterwards in an open away end. Great memories of my first proper away season - 1-4 at orient and 0-1 at league leader’s Northampton Town courtesy of a late goal from either Pascoe , McCarthy or Ian Love

I went to the Rotherham home match. They were in the Division above us. In the early days where the club finishing 4th from bottom in the league above joined the 3 clubs finishing 4,5 & 6th. I think it was 3 automatics. It all change when they decided to play the finals at Wembley. I also went to the home Torquay match. I remember goalkeeper Peter Guthrie being on loan to us from Spurs??? Was that the season when Mike Hughes had to retire because of the bangs he had to his head? I thought Mike Hughes was a really good keeper, it was really sad. Lee Sharp was in the Torquay squad for the away final second leg, I seem to recall?

Yes, I got ahead of myself. I think it was the year where we barely scraped the play-off, but went up.

He was the manager when I was in my last couple of years at School, which was really exciting for me as he lived in Leeds as do I (there wasn't many Swansea fans at my school) and one of my classmates was going out with a girl called Gabby Yorath who was at one of the other Catholic schools in Leeds.

My understanding at the time was that he was a top guy.

Sadly not long after that there was the tragedy of his son dying whilst they were playing football in the garden. I think that affected his managerial career but hid did have a long career as a coach (I think he was at Huddersfield and Bradford as a coach a few times possible as assitant to Peter Jackson).

Not too sure about his playing career at Leeds but he would have played many more games if it hadn't been for Bemner and Giles being his main competition for a starting place.

If remember correctly we played Wolves away in the mid eighties where we lost 4-1 I'm sure he played in that game. Was he a player manager for us for a while.

Day spoilt by the Wolves subway crew..

Aldershot. That Wolves game came straight after by the looks of it but Im not sure if Yorath played in that game. He definitely played at Aldershot.

We ended up with a points deductiion from fielding ineligble players from that period. We appealed and it was recinded but we still fkd up promotion that season. RIP Mr Yorath. The manager that brought hope back to the club after the worst three years I can recall as a Swansea supporter.

What sad news.

Always remember his time with us (the first spell) with great fondness. Similarly his time as Wales manager. Some brilliant memories with both under his management.

RIP.

Very sad news. Along with Chivers. And Keegan - but 🤞for Kev.

It occurred to me that these three names drew instant memories and knowledge for me.

I'm getting old I know, but I wondered what these names meant to "youngsters" (and above) on this Board 🤔. I don't know the demographics of this Board, I think there are quite a few who are fully aware of them like me...but are there lots who have little idea ? (maybe apart from Yorath because of his Swansea and Wales connections )

Really sad news, his time here was before my time but always seemed like a top bloke, RIP.

7. Terence Yorath
8. Sean McCarthy

10. Colin Pascoe
11. Thomas Hutchison

Its a long time ago. Maybe the Aldershot game was what got us the penalty. I know we could barely put a team on the pitch. We beat the leaders Northampton on valentines day and I dont think we won another game all season. The biggest collapse I ever saw. 6 points clear in 2nd to mid table in 2months. Edit: Ok we lost 12 of 16. Managed to win 3. My memory has faded much more than I reallised.
