That fucker would write off your Bentley

Amazing. Is it the same bird in these pictures or are there a bunch of them here? According to this map they shouldn't even be this far north west

Saw quite a few of these in Crete at the Lasithi Plateau. Amazing sight.

There is definitely only one, Blaze. The only previous UK Lammergeier record was one in 2016 seen over the Dartmoor and Monmouth areas. This recent one was tracked through Netherlands & Belgium late spring and was seen in Warwickshire at the end of June before taking residence in the Derbyshire/South Yorkshire area. It stayed in that area until 3 weeks ago when it started wandering and has been seen in Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Oxfordshire, Norfolk and most recently Cambridgeshire where this recent spate of photographs were taken, prompting suggestions that it may be heading home back to the Pyrenees or more likely, the Alps. However, these birds do not like crossing large areas of water which is why so few ever reach the UK despite many young ones tending to wander north rather than south so there is the possibility that it has missed a very good opportunity for a Channel cross on the recent northerly winds that suddenly brought us colder temperatures so may stay longer. There is concern that the bird has recently been seen grounded as in the photographs from Cambridgeshire which may mean it's weakening for some reason and possibly unable to return home in which case, it may be captured, treated and repatriated.

lol hell of a boy isn’t he?

Could be a hell of a girl actually Darran!

Some people reckon it's a female but they've got a couple of feathers and will know for sure soon after some tests!

It's been announced to day that the UK Lammergeier or Bearded Vulture is, in fact, a female and is from the Alpine colony and not the Pyrenees.

So yes, A hell of a girl it is.

I could have told them it was probably female when it it left Derbyshire heading for the south coast and went via Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Oxfordshire, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and back to Lincolnshire.

We get to see Goshawks flying out of the New Forest also Buzzards and Sparrowhawks are very common. Don't see many Red Kites must all be in Wales ...

Garden wise Goldfinches and Blue Tits very common along with Stonechats and Sparrows.

I live on a migration route for birds to the continent and if i made an effort i could see a lot more.

First Redwing of the season in our garden this morning, probably newly arrived from Scandinavia.
