The Fish

I saw Dai the drop get a round in after we beat Forest away in 82.
John Mahoney passed him a pint and some joker shouted watch you dont drop it Dai.
He lifted him off the ground by his collar.
Strong fella Dai.
Dai Davies survived a high speed car crash. The car went through his legs.

I'd extend that to the worst goalkeeper I've seen full stop.
In terms of Sean’s keepers we had Peter Guthrie after Mike Hughes was forced to retire. He was gash. Then there was a keeper who played for Watford in their 87 semi v spurs I think. He was like a Sunday league keeper if I remember correctly.

Gary Plumley. He was actually imortalised on the cover of our 76-77 programme diving for a goal when playing for Newport. Edit: We hammered them in the league cup(4-1) the same season and each of those pictures is Plumley condeding a goal.

That’s him. I’ve just looked at his Wikipedia. I didn’t realise he had an extensive professional career playing in the football league for Newport, Hereford and Cardiff.
Going by that performance in the semi, it’s no wonder he was lower league!

He actually ended his last season here, 22/23, pretty well. Was MOTM at home to Coventry (I think) and was solid enough to at least be backup this season, but the fans have somehow turned on him even more since... not actually playing?

Good Lord. Some balance. Like you say, was pretty decent when playing behind a sensible back four doing sensible things.

He was hung out to dry by the way Russy sent the team out to play for the most part and ended up with confidence absolutely shot to bits. Not a great keeper by any stretch, but probably made to look worse than he actually is as a result of that.

A parting of the ways has been inevitable for a while, but I hope he does well. I've got no malice towards him.

Beyond any shadow of a doubt, the worst pure goalkeeper I've seen in my 35 years watching the Swans.

By "pure" I don't mean the bells and whistles like his passing ability, I mean just basic stuff like shot stopping, making himself look big in 1v1s, claiming crosses, etc. Have never seen a GK lack presence in the way he does.

The signing that more or less finished Martin off here.
Yes, but apart from that.

Agree with this.
Also fair to say (not his fault, obviously), but what a massive waste of £400k at a time when our resources were limited.
Common sense at the time should have been to develop Benda to establish him as our no 1 moving forward.

Yep. Benda could realistically still be our #1 now and we'd have spared ourselves the £2m+ Fisher has cost in terms of fees and salaries.

Still, if only Martin had been backed eh?

If Fisher starts at snake mountain tomorrow I'm starting a Fisher Watch thread lads.
Just to put this into context, St Johnstone are probably on a par with TNS quality wise...

Will they chuck him in tomorrow without actually seeing him. Big game for their survival hopes
