The January 2023 Transfer Thread

Wales Online reporting Swansea are not expecting to be active in the transfer window and it’s depended on further outgoings.
Considering we’ve only moved players on in this window and lost a goalkeeper to a season ending injury it’s truly embarrassing from these owners.
They let Russell Martin down and the players.

If I see a statement from Julian Winter making excuses I won’t be renewing my season ticket.

If ever a club needed a fundamental change to the way it conducts itself off the pitch this is it.
Appalling leadership full of soundbites in cosy forums with no alignment between owners, executives and coaching staff. Just the same poorly run club presiding over the same mistakes time and time again.

Off the pitch from a commercial/engagement point of view. Aside from the efforts of Lee Trundle the club do next to nothing to engage young supporters or give something back. I’m seeing other clubs doing open training, meet and greets, signings around half term to try and engage and capture these young fans but here there is nothing. The football club is stale and treats its supporters with contempt.

This club if it keeps getting this much wrong will inevitably slight towards the bottom of this league in the next couple of years and who knows where that goes. They will also lose a generation of young fans and current fans who have become disenfranchised. Swansea fans are more interested in the fortunes of Wrexham.

If only we had some kind of Supporters group that could give a statement from the fans to explain how really bad they (Levien Winters et al) are.

Yep. Getting this thread to 5 pages has been a labour of love given the lack of any action. But then we knew this was the case, as Martin pretty much said so at the start of the window and this is how the owners & Winter want us to operate. It's the footballing equivalent of the Tory's austerity. No intention to invest for growth and survive by selling off assets. Sooner they all fk off the better.

(And to add, I've nowread RWPower10's post above. Says it all better than me - agree 100% with all of that).

Update from Wales Online

Swansea are pushing to add to their squad today (yes, at long last, on the final day of the window...). How likely it is that anything comes off remains to be seen, mind.

A goalkeeper is a possibility given the injury to Steven Benda. That is thought to be an area of concern.

Elsewhere, a move for Chiedozie Ogbene appears highly unlikely, but Harry Cornick's situation at Luton Town remains interesting.

The Hatters do not wish to sell the versatile 27-year-old - who is now in the final year of his contract at Kenilworth Road. He has been of interest to the Swans this month, although Bristol City are admirers and need to add a forward to their ranks having sold Antoine Semenyo to Bournemouth.

As for outgoings, none appear likely as things currently stand. The only possibility is likely to be Jamie Paterson, but the 31-year-old has not been the subject of any offers at present.

Supposedly Liam Smith is having a medical, young left sided player who’s played for the Scottish age groups from Man City

A squad filler loan, which is exactly what Russ said we didn't want.

Complete shambles.

edit - perm apparently, my bad.

Quite a shambolic situation currently . However if we get the £4M for Obafemi which in comparison to what Bristol City sold Semenyo to Bournemouth is undervalued but if wants to go then we make our profit and move on.

Whittaker situation looks like the board want him to stay but a dangerous plan if a player is unsettled and wants to be elsewhere. Surely what is happening with some current players prove that.

Patterson for me looks like he is being dragged through the mire by his agent. A decent player there who always looks unsettled which will continue to happen so best somehow we offload.

The loan process in the main has been poor, not sure where this blame lies but the treatment of Flex and Stevens when clearly RM likes is underperforming favourites is a baffling one.

Enjoy 13th position this season .. relatively stable with very little ambition. Swansea the new Preston North End.

Hope not, they are £37 million in debt!

I thought we were still in Utrecht's shit list after the Vorm stunt we pulled?

We've done business with them since. We sent them Peterson loan.

Which may actually have soured the relationship further.

He was on loan at Utrecht, he's going back to Herta to be rented out again, with Swansea and others in the frame. So what Utrecht thinks doesn't matter on this.

Typical Hollanders, brutally honest about what the 'loan' process actually is.

Looks like he's signing permanently for Venezia anyway
