The Process

The point about high pressing is valid. Martinez’s side didn’t have to deal with that because the high press hadn’t reached managers in England then. We didn’t even face it in the Premier League until the likes of Klopp brought his system here. Garry Monk and Ashley Williams we’re fine players for us but I wonder how they would have coped if put under the pressure that defenders are these days.

A bit like this I reckon

Its amazing how people manipulate their memories and forget what happened or how things were...even as recently as last season

I agree with your disagreement :D

In the last 2 games, and as a result of more time together during the international break, we seem to be playing the passing game with sharper passes and with better movement. This caused both Cardiff and Millwall a lot difficulty in trying to close us down and meant that we were playing more on the front foot, which in turn made us look a better team.

With seven games remaining and most of those winnable it could lead to a semi interesting end of season. If we could win all seven then we'd probably make the play offs

Just once in last 12 years has 75 points not been enough to reach the playoffs. Yes, 99% chance we'll slip up more than once along the way, but whilst 75 is available then we have to go for it.
I am with you on that one.
Better being optimistic and going for it.
Who knows ?

One clip from one game apparently proves something. Sounds a bit like how those 2 minute highlights packages showed how much good football we played last season. :D

Go back and watch games from the Martinez/Rodgers/Laudrup era and I guarantee you'll rarely see teams pressing us in our own half as hard as Millwall did on Tuesday. Teams would position players to try and cut off passes yes, but they were generally happy for us to have it on our own half, with the belief that we couldn't hurt them from there.

Gegenpressing was brought in with the idea that if you pressure teams all over the pitch, you're more likely to win back the ball in dangerous areas and produce instant goal scoring chances. It's been successful and so more teams logically use it against a team like us that keep the ball for a large percentage of the game. It's yet to be proven whether we can overcome that on a regular basis, even on Tuesday there were dangerous moments and we've seen plenty of goals against us this season come from mistakes we've made under pressure.

3 wins in 4, 4 unbeaten. 3 of the bottom 4 up next.

With those games we should get a minimum 9 pts from those games if we are to believe ''The Process'' is working. If we don't? Well let's pass judgement then. I'll be more convinced if we go unbeaten against Boro,Bmth and Forest.

I'm being cautious at the moment too, we've seen a few good runs of form followed by collapse this season already. But only convinced if we go unbeaten against the teams currently in 6th, 2nd, 8th? You're hard to please. ;)

I agree with you in general, that clip was just the first thing that came to mind when someone mentioned pressing Monk and Williams!

I just can't believe anyone is pinning their hopes on us winning the next 3 games never mind the next 7. The Brum game was less than two weeks ago. They were 20th. We should have lost 3 or 4 nil. hat is as much the reality of us at the moment as back to back wins.

Win the next 4 and I might allow my hopes to become high enough to be dashed. Derby are a decent team by the way. They are only 'really' fewer points behind us than the cruds. Reading have already beaten us at the Lib and Barnsley are in decent if up and down form.

I'd be more inclined to back us against Florist, Muff and Boro, the way we are.

Even I could cheer Vetch up

Not sure about that Monny I'm sure you give Cooper some stick, Vetch doesn't forget or forgive when it comes to his Uncle Steve.

I can't quite jump on the belief that we are actually where RM wants us after two good performances. I can't quite jump on the outside chance of the playoffs. If we finish top half there i'm gonna say it I'll be pleased. :D This season for me has been one of frustration mainly due to overplaying when it's not always the right thing to do in certain area's.

It's frustrating to think that with a bit more consistency and more purpose a bit earlier we'd be up there now in a very poor league. Some of the games we've surrendered or not tried against terrible teams (Reading, Hull twice, Blackpool, Stoke twice, Brum twice) are criminal. Still I thought 60 points was par and I'd be disappointed if we don't beat that. Is starting to feel like a missed opportunity though.
