Ah, that old chestnut.

It's never due to crap decisions, or being tight bastards, or not knowing how to run a club in a sport and country you don't understand or showed no effort to try and understand, it was simply "our time".

Now, I'd agree that clubs of our size have no divine right to be a top flight club. I don't think anyone would claim that. But let's not pretend that our demise was just inevitable. We were ticking along quite nicely until the Yanks darkened our door. They took a well run club with a clear identity and a well respected reputation within the game, and they torched anything good about it in double quick time.
so why do you think the sellouts sold?
they could see the writing on the wall and wanted to cash in ........relegation would have come if they had stayed

Not really an old chestnut, more a case of reality.

However, this was not the point I was arguing against. The comment was about ‘skint yanks’ to which I responded.

Your point only then becomes valid, because yes, what we’ve done in the transfer market in recent times has been generally rubbish. Matters off the field also leave you scratching your head.

Greed....a divorce may also have had an impact on things...

But I agree, Jenkins was a liability towards the end. With him still as chairman we would still have gone down I agree (as we did). Although the yanks phucking up the Siggy summer sale window proved to be disastrous.

spot on there....the divorce did have an impact but the belief from some of our fans that our down fall is all down to Yanks is not true.. don't forget we still had HJ as chairman even under their ownership...and yes he did go against them re the Dan James sale but he was still " in charge".

Yup, although it was the yanks choice to keep Jenkins in post although he'd lost his touch. Ayew and Bony were horrible, lazy, expensive mistakes which handicapped us for years

Put Clucas in with those two.

Not so much it was the sale of Siggy that led to that more the fact that we spunked the money on players simply not up to the job we needed them to do.

I still cringe every time I remember the video announcing the return of Bony with the number 2 and the fact that we gave West Ham their money back for Ayew

And that was before you consider how much we spunked on Clucas

We went down because our transfer activity became dreadful. And has failed to improve ever since

Yes I meant the whole way the Siggy sale was handled and their refusal to sanction any replacements until the money had cleared on the bank. Waited and waited and waited and then ended up over paying for shite like Clucas.

Never actually realising that the moment clubs know you have a stack of cash in your reserves then the prices go up

And it always seems to be us that loses out in those situations

Our problems stem largely in all levels of negotiation in that our ownership believes they always hold the aces even when they have two threes, a five and a discount coupon for Woolworths

Just bumping this. I got dogs abuse in here for saying this for years.

Now the penny has dropped it seems.

I’m an analyst in my field of work and it didnt take a rocket scientist to work out that this is was always going to happen under the skint Yanks.

League One by 2025 boys, yay!!!!

‘Skint’ - wtf !?

They’re clearly not skint having recently spent the most ever outside of the prem. Top quartile spenders in the league.

And with Cravatt, Morris and AC investing 10s of £millions we are certainly well placed to not just have our structural gap filled each year but to also continue to invest to achieve our ambitious objectives.

With your analyst hat on - how much more do you want us to spend, whilst also not falling foul of P&S rules.(FFP)?

" We are well placed to achieve our objectives ".
Say one thing pal, you are entertaining at best.

I’m actually annoyed with myself for taking the time to reply to this post. But here we are.

At the moment there’s nothing we can do about the ownership. For the foreseeable future, they’re here to stay, so we should channel all our efforts into supporting the management and players.
We’ve also got to remember we ain’t premier league anymore, so it’s imperative that we adhere to Profit and sustainability rules. We can only lose a max of £5M per season, or upto £13M if the ownership covers the loses.
At least we’re not a Derby or Reading.
