Driving into work this morning,I was looking around at the state of everything.
Rubbish strewn at the side of the roads, potholes everywhere. And then I passed our flagship arena. FFS. It's not even finished properly, and now the main stairs have been scoffolded, and covered in tarpaulin, presumably to hide whatever is going on behind. What is going on, I despair. Shocking.

It simply comes down to more than a decade of a lack of investment in infrastructure.

Having not lived in Swansea for a very long time now, the one thing I always used to notice when I came to matches was the amount of litter and dumped rubbish compared with most other places but can't say it's any worse now than before tbh.

Seriously K, it's a mess. The bypass down to Morfa is littered with crap, black bags, just stuff strewn all the verges. General maintenance has gone downhill. No one seems to give a sh!t anymore.🤬

Nah! Wheeling out the same old excuse. Do you reckon it is more cost effective to fill a pothole in properly first time, or to send a couple of men in a van out 2 or 3 times to do a temporary job, which only lasts a week or so, especially in the winter. I know what I'd do.

Proves my point really. Undoubtedly more efficient long term to do it properly but cheaper short term to do it a couple of times on the cheap. But the money isn’t there to take the more expensive long term view so you end up with the temporary fixes that are short term cheaper. Due to over a decade of under investment in infrastructure. You can say “nah” as much as you like but facts is facts.

Most of the potholes are fixable long term if done correctly and would undoubtedly, save in the long run, once you get the ingress of water into the sub grade it will only get worse and you end up spending more in the long term. If you keep on top of things in the first place you save in the long run. It's about housekeeping not lack of investment.

I was in full agreement up until your last sentence. Look around you, any city anywhere in the U.K. Are yiu seeing evidence of forward planning? Urban renewal? Why do you think that is? If a local council could fix a pothole long term for say £3k or fix it temporarily dozens of times for a fraction of that amount, what do you think they’re gonna do when budgets are stretched?

Sorry but I think you will find that the cost of both repairs is a lot closer than you are suggesting. Not withstanding you think it cheaper to send a gang out multiple times.

I tend to balk at the phrase “I think you will find” so I’ll leave you to it. Have a nice evening.

There has to be an Andrew Cued joke in there somewhere.

I'm not surprised. They need to get it finished, it's becoming a bit of a joke.
