FAO Saint & Smurph:
The NFL season:
32 teams divided into 16 representing AFC conference and 16 representing NFC. Each conference has 4 divisions of 4 teams, generally divided by geographical location. Seasons fixtures made up of games versus your league opponents (6 games, 3 x each home and away) and 11 other games derived by an algorithm, so 17 regular season games in total.
Each division winner is guaranteed a play off spot, three other best performing teams from each conference (not division) also qualify for play offs. At this stage the route to the Super Bowl sees AFC teams play AFC teams and the same for NFC. The 1st seeded team (based on record over the 17 games) gets a bye in first round of playoffs. The remaining six teams play games based on 2nd seed versus 7th, 3rd v 6th, 4th v 5th. Winner goes through to next round where 1st seed plays lowest seed, second highest seed plays second lowest seed. Highest seed always plays at home. Second play off round is this weekend, final round next week which will confirm the conference champion and the team which represents the conference in the Super Bowl.
