Tracks of my years

Interesting that a few have included Bowie's Space Oddity. Last night I saw Rick Wakeman at St George's Church in Beckenham which is within spitting distance of where Bowie's house used to stand. Wakeman visited Bowie here on several occasions and first heard many of the songs he ended up playing on.

As his encore Rick played Space Oddity and Life on Mars which were just magical. Look up his performances of these pieces on YouTube.

Excellent thread that deserves more contributions Again there's plenty more I could include but in no order. They all hold a significance to me.

The Specials - Hey Little Rich Girl
Paul Simon - American Tune
The Enemy - It's Not OK
The Five Keys - She's The Most
David Bowie - Space Oddity
The Wedding Present - Take Me (Peel Sessions)
Velvet Underground - Heroin
The Ramones - I Wanna Be Sedated
The Smiths - Reel Around The Fountain
Sun Kil Moon - Carry Me Ohio
My Aunt who knew I liked my music , she was into the arty scene at that time , bought me Nico and the Velvet Underground 33 lp as a birthday present with the yellow banana on the cover .

As i kid i was fascinated by the lyrics of the whole album , not sure my parents did though :)

Yeah I can imagine. I think John Cale has never received the credit he deserves - at least in his home country anyway

The Velvet Underground – The Velvet Underground & Nico (1967)
Here we have the holy grail of punk rock, The Velvet Underground’s infamous 1967 release. Back in the 60s, this release caused something of a scandal thanks to its offensive content. The label was then forced to begin clearing the records out of stores, but not before 30,000 copies were sold. There was once a Canadian record aficionado who found a surviving copy in a local flea market, which he took off its former owner for a few cents. Its true resale value? Try $25,200 out for size!

The Beatles - Twist and Shout
The Kinks - Lola
Rod Stewart - Maggie May
Springsteen - Thunder Road
Yes - And You and I
Genesis - More Fool Me
Cliff Richard - Summer Holiday
Allman Brothers - Blue Sky
Dire Straits - Romeo and Juliet
Biffy Clyro - Black Chandelier

Jeez , bit or a story here , but after a divorce I went through late 90 s , I moved out of the matrimonial home and left my vinyl 33/45 collection , all protected in the thick plastic cover available to buy then .
This album was amongst that lot .

They were in pristine condition , when asking my ex later I would like to collect them she informed me she had no use for them and taken them to the local skip , that album is probably in landfill now .

Regarding that article , my aunt the arty/farty type was , obviously ahead of the game even then .

here's mine

Plethyn - Lawr Y Lôn
Meredydd Evans - Dacw 'Nghariad I Lawr Yn Y Berllan
Bwncath - Clywed Dy Lais
Bitw – Siom
Dafydd Iwan - Yma O Hyd
Plethyn - Tân Yn Llyn
Eve Goodman - Dacw 'Nghariad
Rhys Meirion ac Alys Williams - O Gymru
Ryan Davies - Myfanwy
Iris Williams - I Gael Cymru'n Gymru Rydd

ps, i am chuffed that everyone has been jumping on the Yma o Hyd bandwagon since Wales qualified for the world cup last weekend. Was number one in the itunes chart yesterday. Get in
