Have you got to the third book in that series (End of Watch)? It veers far more into traditional King territory. I really enjoyed all three.
Its always the way, I have apparantly given up at just the wrong point. I may give it whirl. I do have it, I just noped on it. I have so many books to read. I am currently endeavoring to finish all his short story collections, He is a master of that form.(although I might add that the short story "The Monkey" which I have just finished, and which was recently made into a movie, was surprisingly lacklustre. )

Looks like they chnaged the film significantly for the Monkey. One of those rariries when its may actually be better. The Mist Movie was one of those, although the film was mostly faithful.

I think King himself has said he thinks the film ending is better than what he wrote.
There is a standing joke about Kings endings, referenced in his cameo in the film version of IT.(Part 2) I have to say I didnt agree until I read Revival. For 99% of that book I was saying to myself this is his best book ever and one of the best books by anyone I ever read, and then the last few paged... the greatest WTF moment in my literary experience. EDIT: I read into it a little. I think i missed much of the detail. When I just read an explanation of what happened, it seems more coherant, and way scarier.
