Williams out

Franco gets hooked every game, Bianchi, Viptonik can't get many minutes and Ronald looks like a shadow of the player we signed in January.

Add Yates and that fella on loan at Hibs to the list. It can't be all the fault of the recruitment team.
Agree. There is definitely a problem but don’t trust the management to fix it unfortunately. Frying pan into fire.

I don't where we honestly go from here, don't want to be that person who questions the manger, he's not doing himself any favours, it's been more or less ten months and we've gone backwards........

Honestly I don't care anymore, going to the game is just about catching up with friends and family while having a couple of beers.

What I mean is when it comes to sacking managers our wonderful owners have had a brilliant record from the start. Firing a competent Italian coach and replacing with a joker. Don’t expect them to get it right next time. They won’t.

We haven't gone backwards. Instead, we have gone sideways, backwards, sideways, backwards, sideways, backwards!

The over 70's Wales football walking team who were on the sidelines at half time have more attacking instinct.

You know its going to be back when Grimes reverts to playing sweeper and him and Franco indulge on defensive one-twos.

Pep on Martin:

‘’ I'm sure I will learn, there were some movements, the reasons why they do things, the movements they make to link to the striker. It's not easy.”

He added on Sky Sports: "It's a good game to learn as a manager. I am going to learn a lot with Russell because they did really well."

Guardiola did not just praise Martin to the media, he also spoke to the Saints boss..

Russell knows how to take a game to the opposition play clever at the top end and score. And get promoted
Williams knows naff all and is relegating us down to his level. Clear as day

I know it’s a WUM and fair play, plus I accept that Legohead, for all his limitations is. Ether than Williams, but you could also remind us how many they’ve scored this season and how many conceded.

We should also remember how many we conceded under Martin

I am now of the opinion that there are two workable options,
1. Sack Williams and try someone else. The trouble with that is that Williams has made the defence effective, which is very valuable and hard to do in this league.
2. Get in a DoF with some authority over the metrics used to judge performance of players, and in that way push faster development of play and more useful ball to strikers.

I was looking at his Wikipedia page the other day and it's quite amusing to see how defensively poor his teams have been.

He's managed 244 games in his career so far and his teams have scored 358 goals.
That's not bad, an average of pretty much 1.5 goals per game.

However, his teams have also conceded 342 goals, an average of 1.4 goals per game.

Considering he was an international level defender as a player, he has no idea how to organise a team defensively.

It was almost a trademark when he was here that we'd lose the ball in the opposition half and watch the opposition score on the counter attack. The number of times I saw that exact scenario happen must have been well into double figures.

We're not as bad defensively now, although the games are just as bland to watch because there's little to no excitement in them

I was expecting more of the same under Williams. His Notts County team would score bucket loads, but also concede regularly. All part of the Russ Martin blueprint it seems. However the pendulum has very much shifted towards tightening the defence at the expense of attacking edge, the examples of us being picked off like Blackburn home have dried up, thankfully. He now needs to work on the formula in the final third, and from my seat this involves Grimes further forward than where he generally sits, more direct wing play, and our ten closer to Vipotnik. Franco can be the deep lying midfielder, he’s agile and can tackle.

Scrub #1 and definitely pursue #2.

The problem with this is that those in charge of recruitment are fairly clueless with regards to what is required at DoF level.

Something needs to change and pretty sharpish, losing at home to an absolute piss poor Mill side cannot be ignored.
Nothing is changing though.

4th May 2024, Millwall at home, last game of last season.
Same scoreline: 0-1
Same goalscorer: C De Norre
Same stats: 70% possession give or take
Same frustrations
Same old same old.
