Williams out

But that's kind of the point here isn't it.

When Martin was here, we all said I wonder what the ceiling is for this group if they could just defend a bit better.

Well now we're finding out aren't we. The answer is, not much better.

It's because the players are just bang average, plain and simple. They're not the worst group in the division but they are way off being a top half side never mind playoffs.

Sack Williams by all means. But all we'll get is another coach basically teasing out a slightly different take on mid-table football with an average squad, that's all. I don't know, perhaps that's what some people want, perhaps their boredom threshold is low, perhaps they enjoy a bit of upheaval just to make things a bit more interesting. Fine, but it's not for me personally.
Keep him until the summer and if things don't improve the owners need to show their ambition and go all out and bring someone in with a CV that's going to get people excited.

If you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

Top half of the table and I would have bitten the hand off for that if predicted start of the season.

Today was not great all round and can't be excused.

I think if we were all honest, stood back and looked at the table that top half of the season over Xmas is not so bad.

We have a weak squad, we certainly have a thin squad and just because a poster states it doesn't cut it doesn't actually mean it to be true.

It's a bad day today but I think taking a stand back with a big deep breath and a look at a table will be followed with "we are not doing too bad".
A predictable response, Daisy, fair play.

However neither you, ANH (and now eteb) have the minerals to present the case FOR The Willy.

And it’s now #522 posts and counting.

You’re all deflecting, not getting it, in denial, whatever. It’s not the squad, it’s not the new new owners. It’s The Willy.

Give it yer best shot (you can swap notes in advance should you need to) - but FFS proffer some rationale for the defence of The Willy )

Okay, I’ve thought about it and had a babycham. Get the fecker gone and roll the dice. We’re going nowhere with him, no matter what players we have and he’s never going to change. It’s pure misery to watch and looking at the league table is no substitute. I want to be enticed back to the stadium, not repelled from the telly. We’re not one single bit better than when he rolled his peanut into town. Just ram your inverted fullbacks up your arse, stick the gnome Grimes under your arm and don’t let the door hit your arse on the way out. Thanks.
Whenever I look at Grimes these days I see this guy from Four Lions...1734801832771.png

Neither was Huddersfield's though, or Forest when they went up. Ipswich's squad certainly wasn't. We've probably got about as good a squad as those three when they were promoted with more or similar spending.

We're in that circling pool of clubs like Preston and Bristol City. And unless we make a change we will be there or worse for years to come.

The difficulty is as we are crowds will only dwindle further too.

Trouble is with rolling the dice, at the moment we're rolling 3s, we could just as easily start rolling 1s as we would 6s.

You're not alone in feeling the way you do, clearly. But I just don't see the point personally. I'd like to see Williams bought half a dozen to a dozen new players in the next two windows, ship out some of the crap and really throw the kitchen sink at it. If after that it's still going nowhere, then think about a change.

When Martin was here, we all said I wonder what the ceiling is for this group if they could just defend a bit better.

Some did. Others also wondered what the ceiling would be if we played all our players in the right positions. Picked our strongest team. Had a coach who could react to the opposing bench. Had more than one way of going out to play every game. Gave younger players a decent chance.

Martin had a stronger squad than LW to work with which made his failure all the worse, but the fundamental questions most people had about him can also be pointed at Williams. It wasn't just about conceding a ton of goals.

I just did offer my view but you have just pushed it aside and discounted it.

You feel we are capable of more and I feel we are in a position(12th) that I am happy with.
No taking away that the performance today was totally disappointing.

I'd even consider Cooper back tbf.

We don't get consistent results or good football so might as well make a play for one rather than neither.

What is our strongest team?
Please post it.

Vig
Key - Darling - Cabango - Tymon
Franco - Grimes
Bianchini/Eom - Cullen - Ronald
Vipotnik

We've seen enough quality of all the above to suggest there should be consistent performances in there. But nobody has improved or is improving.

Don't you ever ask yourself why Ronald has gone to shit? Why Vipotnik scored goals for fun everywhere else but barely gets a chance now? Why our best full back is being asked to roam into central midfield at every opportunity?

Even Eom started better than he is now.

That's about where I'd go. If Allen was fit I'd certainly consider benching Grimes. I'd also have more variety on the bench too. Promote Wilson and Nzingo from the u21's instead of picking four defenders.

Also matters how you pick them. Cut this "inverted fullback" shit out because all that does is leave us wide open to the counter.

31% win rate.. 9 points off relegation, 8 points off the play offs, stuck slap bang in the middle with a top half budget.. data signings are on the way apparently an all.. our first thought today was pass backwards at all costs and it lead to their winner

But you didn’t, and neither do your cohorts.

All you do is bash the squad, the owners, the culture.

You’re clearly a football man . What’s your take on why Willy plays Inverted FBs? You can ask Dai fromPT if you need to 😉
