Williams out

This is fair and it's basically what the owners have been pinning their hopes on all along - finding that special manager who can improve the players he has rather than need to spend money on new players they believe are better suited to their system.

Unfortunately we haven't found that manager (probably because there's not that many of them out there and every club wants one) and have compounded the problem by letting managers spend considerable amounts on players who aren't better than what we had. Then the next manager doesn't want those players and wants to sign 'better' ones. Rinse and repeat every time we sack someone.

I do think Williams needs to improve as a manager, but I don't think he's sacked this season unless we're seriously flirting with relegation.
I agree sacking him is premature, he certainly needs to improve though.

In terms of player development just look at Ronald, he's a shadow of the player we signed in January and that is down to the manager and his coaching staff.

It's only nonsensical when it shows the deficiencies in your blind support of a manager that in this very moment in time seems completely void of any ideas and out of his depth.

The way the national team plays now compared to when Page was in charge is a complete contrast.

It's the same players different manager.
I'm not blindly supporting Williams, that's a made up reality that only exists in your head, there is plenty I don't like about the guy, but I just think it's utterly ridiculous and wholly missing the main point to call for his head. We have mostly rubbish players - that's the bottom line.

There isn't a coach in the world who would get this squad above mid-table, not with those forwards. Sure, we could sack Williams and get another guy in, but it's a pointless risk not worth taking for the sake of finishing say, 12th, instead of 16th. He'll keep us up. It might not be very entertaining, but he'll keep us up.

As the saying goes, you can't polish a turd.

Potter and Cooper seemed to have done alright.
It's hard to judge them against each other because the earlier managers we had after relegation had better squads to work with.

Think of all the players who have left/had loans ended who would walk into our starting 11 today: James, McBurnie, Guehi, Gallagher, Brewster, Manning, Gibbs-White, Rodon, van der Hoorn, Woodman, Downes, Ntcham, Piroe.

Even less successful players of those years would be better than what we've got now: Carroll, Olsson, Fer, Carter-Vickers, Kasey Palmer, Celina, Wolf, Obafemi.

The only players in our current team who wouldn't be replaced by one of the above are Grimes (because he's been here all along!) and potentially Vigs over Woodman.

So have the managers got worse or have they had worse teams to manage? Or is it both?

Squad and managers have significantly got worse

I can see it's too late for you. The curse of the fist pump strikes again.

Spot on post.
I think we would be very silly to call for his head sat where we currently are....if we got rid presently then the football world would rightly call us mad.

I think it's ckear we are weak attacking and would say that Williams can see this and it's why defensively we are better, Tymon is not going forward as much which suggests more work going on us defensively.

We could go out all attacking but not only would our attack struggle given the personnel at our disposal but our defence would struggle without the extra bodies.

Maybe I am wrong but I think the shift presently is down to the fact that the management see our weaknesses and are creating a unit who are hard to beat to compensate for our poor options attackingly. It's a dangerous game but might be our best option until the window re opens.

It's going to be 1-0 Millwall Jaxs isn't it? Can't see him trying to change the Backwards Waltz and the Hopeful Wang from the Wing 'attacking' strategy.

Maybe 1-1 if we get a lucky bounce.
It's written in the stars that Macaulay Langstaff will get the winner....

You're absolutely spot on.

There are no goals in this team, so the only way we'll win games is to keep it tight and hope for set pieces or lucky deflections or opposition mistakes.

It may grip people's shit, but we have no other option - at least until January, where we might be able to do something about it.

After a good think and a chat with a fellow Jack of around 60yrs we both agreed this was likely the case.......we very rarely agreeing so agreeing is a good sign 😂

It's basically an updated version of Hollinsball from 99/00 season (for those that can remember back that far).

Strap in and get used to it, that's what I say.

Exactly the era I was thinking on when I was having a good think about it yesterday.
It became clearer when I thought about it. Williams and his staff know our limitations and it highlighted to me why Tymon isn't as effective going forward as last season and why Grimes is sitting deeper....its about making us more of a solid base to compensate for the lack of quality in the final 3rd and he is hoping we stay in the mix come January and we can get the options in further up the pitch.

Creativity at 10 and on the left side is desperate now.....it will also help having these in for the ineffective Ronald who is now our only outlet with any level of quality😬 for the next 5 weeks or so.
