• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

Yes Indeed, but I would imagine a potential suicidal person, a prison would be the last place on earth to send them.
Where else are they going to send him? Prisons have hospital wings, they can also control access to products used to self harm and they can have inmates on close supervision.

The email he sent out to all members of staff apologising for what was going to unfold during the day is fascinating.
It is and probably explains why he has been remanded. It would suggest he had a complete breakdown.

Somebody pointed out to me that the content of the letter, especially the apologising for what was coming next, would have been far more sinister if this had been in the States...

Sorry Major, I meant to reply earlier. My comment was based on really what's been going on at Parc Prison and the suicides that have happened there

If that was the case, that he would be looked after in that way, by the prison authorities, then fair enough. Although I do think, unless the remand is warranted, then he should be looked after by the relevant mental health services, not a prison.

He’ll be a first time prisoner going in to the remand wing and they’ll most likely be keeping an extra eye on him because of the increased level of risk, I’d imagine after what’s happened he may feel his life is over etc etc, everything has gone down the pan and there’s nothing to live for.

Sadly, there have been lots of suicide and deaths documented at Parc Prison over the last few years, many of them will have been on the main wing where it’s much harder to keep an eye on everything.

Losing the plot and bumping someone over the head with a spanner and causing minor injuries however wrong that is, shouldn't, in my opinion be enough for anyone to be sent to prison on remand.
This gentleman has obviously had some sort of breakdown, and should in my opinion have been sectioned in a secure unit and not been incarcerated into a prison environment.
Again, just my opinion.

Agreed. Not the right environment.

We need to get far more intelligent about criminal justice.

That’s where I am with it. I read a lot into his mental state through that email that he sent in advance. Placing him on remand for his own safety sounds counterintuitive.

My first thought was perhaps they couldn't find this gentleman a bed in a secure unit at short notice so remanded him temporarily.
Hopefully this is the case and he'll be moved into a better environment for his wellbeing very soon 🙏

Anyway, what a story this is in the making, definitely get the popcorn out when this goes trial 🍿

There’s at least a two season box set in this.

Getting someone assessed is hard enough, getting a placement in a secure unit is really really difficult and mega expensive ( not that that would be an issue for the health board when he’s been put there by a Court). If there are MH issues then he may end up in the prison hospital wing.
I’ve never met the guy, but I feel sorry for him. He’s probably been a model citizen all his life, something has snapped and it’s all kicked off. He’s going to lose pretty much everything he’s ever worked hard for.
