It’s more competitive because mediocrity comes as standard.
Yep.

And it’s easy to see why most seasons now see the promoted teams come straight back down. The gulf between the premier league and championship seems much wider than it was.

Today felt like watching a lower league game to be honest.

I think it may be worth a change around to see if it helps.

Sheehan plays a holding midfielder and two in front. No number 10. And that leads to three options to link back and front - either it goes wide or it gets lumped. Or play is ponderous while we wait for the midfield to move forward.

None of those options really suit us. Our wide players need to have a very precise end product to find the one player up front (and normally they don’t). Or they need to be able to cut in and score themselves. Which normally they don’t. And the lumping it option doesn’t really work when the opposition have a giraffe at the back like today. And the slow option means we invariably hit a wall and lack the creativity to get around it.

The midfielders today are too similar.

I’d try Galbraith at full back (he obviously has the ability to beat players out wide as we saw in injury time today), I’d play Stamenic holding, Franco in front on him and Yalcouye at 10 (or Yalcouye at 8 and Widell or Cullen at 10).

I’d also be tempted to try Inoussa and Eom as the two wide players as Eom does have the ability to cut in and shoot.

At the moment we really are a bang average mid table team. That’s fine in some ways, but crowds aren’t going to improve. To get some excitement back we have to try something new.

In my opinion, of course.

Noticed Cabango going mad with Key a few times today
Yes he was especially after he got booked.

I heard Stamenic scream out in frustration also in the 2nd half although not at Key.
Players do seem to have a lot of frustration in them presently.

Cutting in and shooting is literally bensons forte. He was the best player in the league by a mile the season they got promoted

A no 10 also helps in getting wingers into the game and would help us attacking wise.

Agreed that Galbraith at RB(which would be a shame) but I would have Stamenic and Franco holding with Cullen at no 10.

Well I definitely wouldn’t play Franco over Yalcouye.

For me our midfield suffers because of the formation. Our main problem in midfield is leaving Stamenic on his own while Galbraith and Yalcouye go wide. It leads to us being short when we lose the ball and means we have nothing in the middle when we try to build up play. Everything is wing-focused.

O’Brien and Franco were made to be high pressing 8s but I just don’t see it with the current two, they seem a lot more comfortable in possession of the ball.

Just my opinion but we’d be much better served playing a 4231 or even a flat 3. We can’t cope with our two 8s pushing so high and wide every game.

That's the interesting thing with football, opinions.

I see Yalcouye not strong enough to be one of the 2 but not creative enough to play at 10.
He was signed to be the O'Brien role but something has gone badly wrong in the physical comparisons.

Key I thought was quite poor today
Not just his defensive contributions but also going forward

There were a number of times where he massively undercooked a pass to Ronald, and not just slightly but I mean by a huge amount. There was also how often he received the ball in an attacking position only to go back and take the safe option

This is setting yourself and others up to be disappointed. He was a sub in half his games that season and he's been injured since.

I think he will come good if he can get fit again properly, but there is no need to inflate his reputation and raise expectations unrealistically.

Ooh , he certainly was. Good to see though , think Cabango has really matured of late.
All well and good reactively shouting at Key but what we are massively missing is a proper skipper who grabs this team and leads us onto the front foot.

We seem rudderless without a proper El Capitan like Matty G calling the shots, controlling our core, driving and protecting our spine, dictating, orchestrating, architecting front foot progressive Swansea type football.

Most especially with a sub-par manager’s assistant in the dug out.
