New Deal For Jay Fulton

Been highly critical of him but have to admit he’s played well recently….two years I’m not sure but hey ho there you go.
Deservedly so in reality. He has certainly upped his game in the last few months and certainly had thoughts the club might offer him a 1 year deal but to bag a 2 year deal is some going.
I would agree that i would expect it to be on reduced terms given his overall performance over the last few years.

Never been his biggest fan but he has improved vastly under Matos. Good decision to extend so we can concentrate on other squad areas (as long as his wages have reduced).

This is worthy of a thread of its own, not mixed in with news about the fish. Far more positives in this than negatives.

You are F**king kidding me. This club will never progress extending contracts of players completely past their sell by date. He's a very lucky boy that he's found a club that has been as gullible as Swansea city has. He would have been thrown out of nearly any other club years before now. It truly is amazing that as his contract nears its end he all of a sudden puts in a couple of decent performances, it truly is laughable, i actually thought it was an April fools joke. Oh well , here's to the next few years of mediocrity and ever more dwindling attendances.

That’s a bit OTT. He’s only 31, so not over the hill. Think about how tactics have influenced his play, compare being asked to play tippy tappy in front of his own box, versus what we’ve seen so far from Matos’ tactical set up; they are very far apart. Every club can benefit from an older, experienced head around the place.

So what have the club got out of his last juicy contract? Half a dozen decent games, mostly as his contract is coming to an end . So that warrants a fresh 2 year contract does it ? I truly give up with this club.

Guidance, experience, standard setting, ensuring the culture remains continuous. Plenty of reasons similar to Naughton and Joey Allen staying with us into their mid 30’s

I have been as vocal a critic of Fulton as any over the past couple of years. The improvement in his performances has coincided with Matos taking over, and it's not a coincidence that the job that he is being asked to do is far better suited to his style of play.

I doubt his new contract will be on the same high wages as his old one, probably more heavily structured with incentives than basic wage. He is now a dependable squad player when Stamenic begins to tire and in interviews with other players his name is one of the first that gets mentioned with glowing praise.

We’ve binned off three managers in that time. Also in the same period we saw our number one goalkeeper turned into Mr Sieve, our RB destroyed, numerous youngsters thrown under the bus, and a huge dose of safety first built into the mindset of the squad. The handbrake has come off in recent times, and it shows in the performances of a few.

6 months ago I'd be throwing my season on the pitch over this announcement BUT his upturn in form and the general feeling that he can help us see games out means I'm mostly in favour now. (I'd be all in if we knew for definite that yr2 was linked to performance etc).

On what we have seen under Matos - Jay absolutely needs to stay. Well earned and 100% the right decision
I dare anyone to ask about Andy Fisher ;)
