Stop the boats

Why are we giving the French £690M to stop illegal immigration by boat when the numbers are tailing off so much.

Its not a statistic that can be judged on those time frames really

Lets see how it looks in October.. to maintain 40% means that only 10,000 arrivals between now and then

The peak was 1000 in a day last summer

Damned statistics..

It’s wild isn’t it. Immigration is tumbling under Labour (right or wrong) as has been said many times by many people the boats issue needs gripping.

The really mad part is that the boats didn’t exist before Brexit which was let’s be honest about non white immigration. All that crap about control it was just a vehicle to express anger at a changing society.

But to any of us with our head screwed on it was obvious by shutting off relationships with close not just allies but geographically close neighbours there would be negative impacts on migration.

This rhetoric and policy (populism) lead to higher immigration levels because decisions were based on feelings not outcomes and also like some suggest it was the “only thing they have” so keeping the show on the road was to have this thing persist not end. Worst thing for the right is this sorted. When I say right I mean populist right.

The real danger now is that it is completely gripped by smart decision making and we move to a new darker phase. No pun intended.

The populists need the immigration issue to whip people up so they might move to politics we haven’t seen for a long long time. The politics of repatriation.

If Labour are smart they’ll make sure they communicate this gripping of migration clearly and then take a risk through this record by advocating for economic growth through FOM and explain benefits through winning over those of us who don’t obsess about immigration and care more about economic issues and public services.

And going back to original point we won’t hear a peep about this. Which shows we don’t really have a true functioning democracy.

Because your lot won’t be happy until there is zero boats. Then Reform will have a huge problem because stop the boats is the only thing they got.

You lot ?? ..I'm not a Reform voter which you seem to struggle with.

It is measuring Jan to Apr 2026 versus the same timeframe of 2025, so it is valid and removes seasonality influence. Summer 2026 must be compared to the same period of 2025.

That reform “policy” is precisely why once this boat issue is gripped (which needed to be) the next stage is speaking up for migration and explaining demographic challenges. Basically facing down the idiots and if that means losing votes - so be it! If people vote for the far right - so be it! But don’t move another inch

Like I said, lets see where we are in October..
